Not if I understand you. The annealing ( softening of the metal) doesn't make it gooey or soft enough to adhere to die or debris if it was between. I am on the side of lamination also.
Of course the planchet isn't gooey but then neither is the strike just a little peck on the cheek. As I said, it's a violent strike. Add the violence of the strike and the annealed planchet, what do you get? I say metal just soft enough to be displaced by struck-in debris. Have you seen the ones that look just like these "laminations" that have fiber left in the coin? I'll remind us, coins aren't made of fiber.
