I keep these '68 - '74 S's too - they ALWAYS seem to be near UNC / UNC. I bet I have 3 dozen of them.

Is there actually a premium over face?

Probably not, but the copper melt value exceeds face value and I like the little S on them.

Today was one of those days that is a little scarcer than should be, but one of those days that makes you soldier on through the doldrums of boring roll searches because of the finds you make occasionally.

    $50 in CWR Halves:
    2 1964
    4 1967
    5 1968-D
    1 1969-D

There were no halves dated after 1977 in the rolls suggesting they were all from the same depositor and held for a long time.

    $150 in CWR dimes
    1 1953-D
    1 1959-D
    1 1961
    1 1964

    $100 in CWR nickels
1 1927 in VG, clear date though
    3 40s S mints
    10 40s dates

    $50 in CWR cents
1 1910, third 100+ year old coin in two days
    17 40s and 50s wheats
    2 68-74 - S

    And the pic:

One box of BWR halves, these pernicious little creatures are so addictive:

    1 1964
    1 1964-D
    1 1967
    3 1968-D
    1 1981-S Proof.

Sixteen silver halves in two days. Buying more tomorrow.

Using "NCLT" to describe coins that are "NIFC" would be something of a paradox as coins that are "not intended for circulation" but are found in circulation were circulating up until the point in which they were found in circulation...

I've been finding a Buffalo maybe every 3-4 boxes. Went 5 boxes without finding one recently, but found that 1918 on my last box. :)

I was finding a silver per box for a while, but have found none recently. Had several really really poor boxes until recently.

Sometimes boxes are fickle like that, but as in the 1914 Buffer, it was worth the wait just to have an early and clear date instead of a pile of dateless coins.

It's still fun hunting. Never know what you're going to find! :)

Having said that... well dimes are just plain a chore. Eyestrain, fumble fingers, little chance of finding one older than '65... I only hit the dimes when I run out of everything else to do.

Thank goodness for NIFC halves. I've never found a silver half from a BWR, but there's usually one or two NIFC coins in a box.

You guys who find silver halves in BWR must not live anywhere near Boston.

It is a fairly harmless and inexpensive form of gambling. I don't think Mrs. Scottishmoney thought too well of my temporarily expending egregious sums of dosh on halves this week, but all went back less the silver of course.

I found another $20 halves in CWR at a small credit union and churned out the following
    1967
    1968-D

Then $200 in CWR 10 cents: zilch, zip, nada

    $70 in CWR 5 cents:

    2 1939
    1 1954-S
    6 40s dates
    2 Canada GVI, 1941, 1947

    $30 in CWR 1 cent:

    15 pre-40 - 18, 26, 27, 29(x3), 30, 34(x2), 36(x3) 37(x2), 38
    12 other 40s and 50s wheats
    3 68-74 S mints
    1 Poland 5 groszy 2003

    $100 in BWR 5 cents
    4 40s S mints
    12 40s dates
    2 silver war nickels, 42-S, 43-P

    $25 BWR 1 cent
    1 44-S
    8 40s and 50s wheats
    5 68-74 S mints

$300 BWR halves - zilch, zip, there went this weeks good luck with finding silver halves. :(

Well, now, go route around your Grandpa's effects and see if there are any more outstanding finds. My Irish grandfather only left used beer coasters to his heirs.

Moving fast. You are one busy roll hunter. The dimes are the worst to hunt thru--eye strain, fumble fingers, and low results/ few good finds. Do like the Halfs, on an emotional plane. Just the heft and bigness of the coins as one peers at the edges, then flips them over one at a time. My wife thought I had lost it when I trudged in with two heavy boxes of Halfs from Chase. Then she knew I lost it when I pounded the table and bellowed"not one d--n silver". And returned the Halfs to a different Chase branch.

I find dimes pretty much as a sure thing, only once have I not found a silver dime in a bag, i would say they are commoner than half dollars.
