The Venetian revolution of 1948 and its associated banknotes offer an interesting glimpse of history. Details can be found at http://navonanumis.blogspot.com/201.../09/moneta-patriottica-daniele-manin-and.html B. Vinod
Hmm, that link above takes me to a different article. Could it be this one? http://navonanumis.blogspot.com/2013/09/moneta-patriottica-daniele-manin-and.html Christian
If you allow, I would like specify some things (from Italy). The "moneta patriottica" was issued also in 50 and 100 Lire notes. Here, 100 Lire, from my collection (if you want, B. Vinod, you can add the picture to your article) The back is blank, without red stamp. But, most important, where you found this news? "These banknotes were printed by Gabriele Barzilai" I know that many of these notes are signed (not printed) by Barzilai, but Barzilai is an unknown man, and is also unknown why he signed the notes. Also his name "Gabriele" seems unknown, Italian books say only "G. Barzilai". Maybe there are recent discoveries that I do not know? I would be grateful if you could clarify. Thanks. petronius
Can anybody get the title of this thread altered...it reads 1948 instead of 1848....ooops !!! Also comments above regarding signatures.....I haven't seen a scan of one of these with a signature on. My Lira 2 appears to have the number 21 on lower centre. I can't observe numbers on others seen online, perhaps the scans are not in high enough resolution, do they all have individual little serial numbers on lower centre ?
As for the date in the topic - done. (Duh. ) If you come across anything like that, just use the "Report" link at the bottom of a post. That way we moderators get an alert and can react accordingly. Christian
