I will be upgrading several of them - and then moving the old ones to the dansco album. The coin certainly looks better in hand than the attached pictures. The question is - do you ever truly get done?
Congrats! I thought I would never be finished upgrading my Morgan albums. I thought Morgans were the only coins worth collecting. I thought wrong. I haven't seriously collected Morgans since I burnt out on VAMs. I just don't have deep enough pockets..... There are so many other wonderful designs to choose from, I love my type set, and my Darkside stuff makes me smile from ear to ear. I couldn't be tied down to one series again, which means I have no focus, but that is working for me right now.:smile
congratulations on finishing your set now on to something new and good luck in finding those Indians you want to up grade and no we are never finished until we are buried and then i want my wife to place a few birth year coins with me to go. wvrick
Congrats, and no you'll never get it done once you start down the slippery slope of upgrading. I haven't finished my IHC set and already I'm changing out the lower grades.
Nice coin!!! I know that you have been looking for one of these for sometime and I'm glad that you found one that you like!! Thinking about 1909-s IHC I just saw one here in town at the dealers yesterday---it was in an SEGS slab marked F....nice coin and was marked right (in $$) but they must have gone up since I bought mine. It was just a few dollars more than the one I bought last year and mine was VF! Oh well....I hope the market keeps going that way!!! Speedy
Congratulations on reaching such an important milestone - other than upgrading current 'fillers' or lesser graded coins - whats next on your list?
Congrats, I have never "finished" a set of anything. I have completed the set, and then went on to upgrade each of the pieces. So, I am still doing that, I guess that I'll never finish anything. Good luck.
hmmmm....so the fact that I'm 2 coins away from finishing my Ike set means that I'm just starting on "finishing" my Ike set? lol :rolling: :computer: :goofer:
Could be - you maybe happy with what you have and move on to something new. In my case my set is g to ms64. The two major keys are graded vf30, but I secretly think vf20. Happy with both of those. For the minor keys 70-72 they are good - I bought them mainly because I knew they would migrate into my Dansco album. So the 70-72 are just g and I will try to upgrade them to at least VF20. I probably should have said "details" on the grade range - I was reviewing them again and think the 1882 was possibly re-colored, the 1888 was cleaned. Don't get me wrong - the 1888 is toning, but to me it is clearly artificial, but interesting. And there might be one or two others that I will replace. I am thinking about getting a whole batch of them graded by ANACs - most of the set is already graded might as well make it complete. As for some of the other questions - I need two dates to have complete shield nickel date set. I am sure you know those two dates. Plus I am probably always going to be working on my large cent collection. I am not sure where I am going on that. Then again I am thinking about buying a few other types of coins - like half cent, two cent, bust half. I have also been thinking about a complete 1909 copper set. So lots of options - but have to stay in budget for a while.
Great Job. I have been watching for a nice VF+ 09S for a while to complete my second set of IHC. One more coin and #2 is complete. Next on the hit list for me is the Silver 3 Cent pieces.
If you're asking that question, you're not done. Regardless, congrats on the accomplishment!!! Do you have a pic of the entire set? Thanks for sharing...Mike
No picture of the whole set - I actually have around 30 -36 graded and around another 30-40 raw coins. I discovered a couple more I will upgrade. My plan is now to upgrade some of the common dates. I have some duplicates - and things like 1865 plain and fancy 5, 1873 open and closed 3. And then start getting some of the raw coins graded. I think I have about 6 total coins to upgrade - and about 20 I want graded. I have decided I want the final set all graded. Then there are 3 or 4 I will just take to the local dealer and get what I can for them. So if I am energetic tomorrow I will take some pictures of the whole set. Maybe add a couple of pictures of my favorite problem coins - 1883 X by date and the proof 1873 closed 3(lint mark on cheek). I already posted the 1868 whizzed coin. And thanks to all for their comments.
Not too energetic - the obverse of the 1873 closed 3 shows the colors of the coin the best. I have another that is PCGS graded VF30. The 1883 is another I like the details on and the pictures are not showing the true colors. I tried several lighting methods, but none seem to work to show the true colors.
Next pictures. On the 1873 you have to hold it right to see the mark on the cheek. If you look at it straight on you can not see the mark - it was described as a lint mark.
