2021 P 1c Lincoln Shield Cent- New DDO - Lite on Date Strong thickness on ERTY Here's another nice single squeeze era DDO Lincoln shield cent I couldn't find on DD or CC. (VV doesn't have any for the year.) One to keep an eye out for if you like roll searching. You'll really like the thickness if you happen to stumble across this one. Date has some minor thickness on the 20. LIBERTY on the other hand is much more pronounced especially on the left arm of the Y. The bottoms show an angle as well, which Wexler refers to as notching. All of the letters on Liberty show extra thickness, at least from your photo, with RTY showing the strongest. How do the designers initials on the reverse look? Be nice if it was a DDO/DDR, which does not happen a lot.
The mint sure didn't solve their doubling problem with the single press. Wexler has hundreds of them just for 2009. Finding a new one is cool.
Thanks and you are correct, lite thickness to LIBE as well but most people won't notice, especially how my images have been turning out lately. I was finally satisfied overall with how they turned out. Alas, no thickness on the initials for this coin but I did find a 2020P with the LB showing thickness. No, they didn't, but I suspect the doubling in this single squeeze era is closely related to the class 6 doubling from the conventional method of striking coins. Finding a new one is fun and the best chance most collectors have but difficult on the eyes (looking at shiny rolls of copper for extended periods of time). Thanks Collectingnut for taking a look. You're right, the date doesn't have much thickness but look at the tops of BERT and you can see how much thicker the vertical parts of the letters are. Even the body of the L is thicker than the leg. If you saw this one in person it would probably jump out at you more.
Hello. I have a 2021 P shield cent DDO and DDR. I sent it to pcgs to grade and they charged me for the error grading but didn't list it as a error so I spoke with the supervisor at pcgs and they requested that I send the coin back to them and I did. So now you can go look at this unique error penny I have and pay close attention to the raised letters stamped in the date and Lincolns mirror image in front of him. Here is the cert number on pcgs. 45427046. Let me know what you all think edited
You don't need to be a member to look up a cert. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/45427046 I don't know what you call that but it's not a DDO - the devices are reversed.
I did not know that about PCGS @KBBPLL, thanks for the information. I don't see DDO on the coin either, can you clarify? @Cliff Reuter, thanks for sharing.
Being as the image of Lincoln and the letters are backwards it’s just a cent that was squeezed in a vise and now it’s damaged.
I don't believe that they are raised. I believe that they are incused and a type of brockage. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=Brockage
The lighting confuses my eye perhaps. I can only see it as raised. The OP does say "raised letters stamped in the date" but I can't understand how it could happen.
Perhaps @Wheatpennyerrorhound will return and tell us what "error" designation PCGS gave it, because the link currently shows it as a regular 2021. Seems like they should have graded it Damaged. I just noticed there are some remnants of IGWT reversed in the rim too.
It would have been helpful to know what the "error" designation was that "Errorhound" is referring to. As KBBPL said, PCGS doesn't note any error designation on their website for the coin. I'm no expert by any means but am willing to share my observations on the images in the Truview link provided by KBBPL. (I'll note here that the reverse images at PCGS show some issues as well that no one mentioned.) "Errorhound", first off, you should have started your own thread only because it is a way of getting more people to look at it and offer their thoughts. Some collectors see an old thread and scroll it past to get to new "stuff". (The colored letters in parenthesis are by me for clarity in my replies.) (A) I see no signs of your coin being a DDO or A DDR (and as far as I know PCGS wouldn't note any variety for this series since no 2021 Lincoln cents have an FS # that I'm aware of). (B)IMHO, errors and varieties (DDO, DDR, RPM, clash, etc) are considered different and not interchangeable terms. Errors denote equipment malfunction or failure that produce striking errors of the planchets themselves. Varieties refer to an irregularity on the die face which transfers to the coin. (C)The secondary design elements you mention are incuse (recessed). I'm seeing two different sets of extra obverse design elements. -Extra mirrored and incuse elements by the date, the field in front of Lincoln's face, and the rim above TRUST. (I feel these are PSD as explained below.) -The rim damage and extra letters ("GOD W" in reverse) on the rim above TRUST must be incuse since it corresponds with the rim damage in the same area. (Lighting is throwing me off and making "W DOG" appear raised.) The letters over the date and the secondary image in the field in front of Lincoln's face are incuse. The light source for the PCGS obverse image in the link seems to be coming from K2 (2:00). Edit: As to Pickin and Grinin suggesting a type of brockage, ... Hmmmmm , interesting. I'm not sure how the rim below "W DOG" couldn't be affected if it were a type of brockage. On to the reverse. EDIT: The area under and toward the rim at MERICA seems very uneven and might be a planchet issue.
