You have to like a coin that knows its own merits. This Khusro II (MR year 35) is labeled on the obverse border APD or wonderful (some translate it praise, good or excellent). I wouldn't go that far but it is reasonably well struck so it might grade aAPD anyway. Feel free to post your coins that blow their own horns.
Nice one, Doug! Khusro II (591-628 A.D.) AR Drachm O: Bust of King right, crowned and cuirassed, ribbon over right shoulder, crescent and ribbon over left, stars flanking crown, monogram to left. R: Two attendants and fire alter, star and crescent flanking flame. 4.1g 32mm
very nice example! i have one from this cat that isn't self graded, but it was my first silver coin... i haven't purchased a sassanian since. shame on me.
I don't believe I have any of those, although I might and not be aware of it....except some Roman issues stating 'Sacred Money'. Otherwise I seem to have to 'toot my horn' for them .LOL
Sadly, I don't have a coin that fits the thread's theme ... but man, that has never stopped me from posting one of my cool gems anyway, eh? Ummm, so this Khurso-II example may not be quite the same as your cool examples, but I thought that this was a good opportunity to let it out so it could stretch its legs ... Byzantine Empire, Sassanian occupation of Egypt Æ 12 Nummi / Khusro II Date: Circa 618-628 AD Measure: 19.66 mm Weight: 8.26 grams Obverse: Cuirassed bust of Khusro facing, wearing crown with simple cross, star to left, C to right Reverse: Cross on globe between I-B, AΛEΣ in exergue Attribution: DOC 191; SB 855 Notes: A very nice example of this scarcer type
The mint is better read as ML. The second letter is a lamed, which was customarily used in place of a resh. The object of the transliteration is to represent the written form as closely as possible. Also, the regnal year is 25, not 35.
Islamic issue of the 'Abbasid governors of Tabaristan An Arab-Sassanian Imitation of Shah Khusro II AR Half Drachm ca. 781 AD 1.93 grams, 23 mm
