It still could be either Caracalla or Elagabalus since their coins both use the name Antoninus. Once you have some good images post them here. It sounds interesting. If we can't find a match, send it to Dane Kurth at Wildwinds. She is adept at identifying coins and is always on the hunt for new coins for her database.

Hi Mike Dane here from wildwinds. I just noticed this 3 month old thread. I cannot see the image of your coin but I can tell you that both Caracalla and Elagabalus struck a coin with Harpokrates on the reverse in Tyre. But according to the excellent Rouvier there is a visible difference between the two. Here are the descriptions translated from French with the appropriate references: 1) Caracalla: Obv: IMP M AVR ANTONINVS AVG, laureate head right. Rev: SEP TVRVS METRO COLONI, Harpokrates, half naked, standing front, looking left, lotus headdress and holding right hand to his mouth. In his left hand are the folds of his chlamys, wound around the lower part of his body, and a cornucopiae. Lighted altar at his feet left, and murex shell in right field. Dichalkus, 27mm, 12.20 g. Rouvier 2317; Mionnet Supp. V, 628. 2) Elagabalus: Obv: IMP CAES M AV ANTONINVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: SEP TVRO METRO..., Harpokrates, half naked, standing front, looking left, lotus headdress and holding right hand to his mouth. In his left hand are the folds of his chlamys, wound around the lower part of his body, and a cornucopiae. Lighted altar at his feet left, and murex shell in right field. Chalkus, 21mm, 5.47 g, Rouvier 2370; Babelon ("Perses Achémén.") 2237. So the biggest differences are on the obverse - one without CAES and head only, the other with CAES and laur. dr. cuir. Does this help ? There will be an example of the Caracalla coin on wildwinds within 15 minutes of my posting this.
Welcome to CoinTalk, @Helvetica! Nice to see you here. Thank you so much for Wildwinds, Catbikes, and all of your numismatic work. You must be one very busy woman!
Wow, Dane! Welcome! I think I can safely speak for everyone when I say how grateful and impressed we are with your dedication and work.
@Helvetica welcome! Your website has been a godsend and I greatly appreciate all the work you've put in to make it what it is! I hope you stick around!
blush blush... The Caracalla example I mentioned above is now online visible on both the Caracalla page and the Tyre page under the number Rouvier 2317. Well back to doing 80 IDs needed urgently for a well-known auction house - I feel the whip on my back...
Hey Dane. Glad to see you posting here. We would love to see some of your coins (just to make us sick).
Talk about KARMA!!! WOW !! Just in the process of bothering you with a few new "problem children" and you pop up on Coin Talk. Several months ago, I settled in on Caracalla for my Harpocrates Ob.IMPMAVR made up my mind, Will be in touch and thanks. Mike
>We would love to see some of your coins (just to make us sick). Most of my coins are so crappy they are not worth the bytes space on my home server. My nicest coins are an ex French museum Constantius II Fel Temp on wildwinds (Rome 174) and an Athena/owl coin from Pergamum. Those are the two that come to mind straight away. Don't know why but the "Upload a file" button isn't working for me, so you will have to go and root around on the pages http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/constantius_II/i.html for the RIC VIII Rome 174 and http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/mysia/pergamon/t.html for SNG Cop 390. And if you look on my Helvetica owl and Fel Temp pages, you will see what I mean about crappy coins: http://www.catbikes.ch/helvetica/feltemps.htm http://www.catbikes.ch/helvetica/owlcoins.htm Poor things, but mine own...
@Mike Bray. Always happy to help. Do you have my gmail address? I don't like copying it to Forums (too many spammers and scammers searching for addresses) but if you look at the bottom of the wildwinds start page there is my wildwinds address there, sort of coded to make life difficult for spammers' hoovers. I will probably reply from my gmail address. For anyone else wanting to send in coins either for ID assistance or for addition to ww - (Sory for hijacking this thread) - I have just put together some guidelines: www.wildwinds.com/coins/coin_submit.html
