You might want to tune into Stack's Bowers online just to look at some of the spectacular coins in the Pogue collection being sold right now. (they are working through the capped bust gold, one just sold for 300k.) Really amazing stuff and who knows when there will be an auction like this again.

Thanks for the reminder ksparrow. I will try to check that out and not hit the bid button.

It seems we are in a time of many great collections going to auction. Some people sure did put together collections at the right time. Hard to do that now. Next is Tom Reynolds Large Cent expecting almost $20 million in January.

I checked them out and my pocketbook is way too light to participate!

I just decided that I had no chance of bidding high enough to win anything, but enjoyed watching the competitive bidding for some of the uber-uber-gems.

I saw a fascinating video on YouTube about the Pogue collection. They estimate it will auction off at a record $200+ million. WOW!!!

I don't pay attention to auctions like that.
When I couldn't even afford the buyers' fees (never mind the coins themselves) it is annoying to spend the time looking.

I'm looking forward to when the 1822 $5 gets auctioned. It has the potential to dethrone the SP66 1794 $1.

I have attended all four of the Pogue sales held so far. This thread is about the second one, which was the most exciting of the four. The auction room was full of energy. Many of the prices were very strong.

I implore collectors who take such an approach to reconsider. I very strongly believe that there is much to be gained by learning about coins that 'you' cannot afford! Before the recently concluded Pogue IV sale, I wrote an article that explains why collectors who cannot afford the coins should care!
