Image24088.jpg Image24090.jpg Image24094.jpg Image24097.jpg Image24098.jpg What is this? I don't know if it is punched because it looks higher than the field. Was it punched on the die? Will it wash off with acetone?

No way was that ever part of the die used to make that image on your Cent. If it's raised then that's a new one for me. Maybe a new technique someone developed to make that look. Cool.

It's counterstamped. Very common and has no value over face.

Also.. looking at it carefully, it could of been punched into the Cent then filled in with metal to give it that raised look.

There is a whole 50 state series of these. Someone posted their collection not to long ago of these. Cant find the link now tho...there's also a whole series of pop culture counter stamps (i.e. batman symbol, Kennedy, etc) on LMCs of the 60s.

NOT..it's worth 1c  So if you found like 25 of them you would have 25c worth!

What he said. Blow up the MN. It is raised it blends back into the field. I'm going for the acetone.

If it was legal to melt cents, it would be worth less than 1c because it would have to be refined to extract the copper.

Yeah, most of this stuff will be dated in the 70s, especially around 1976. Literally tons of things like this made for the bicentennial.

Image24133.jpg Image24134.jpg Image24136.jpg Image24137.jpg Ok well I saw the set on e-bay. I looked at some close ups of stamped coins and they look stamped. This coin actually has copper melted into the field. You can see in the close up the metals are fused due to heating. I didn't see any like this on the web. It must be a "Laser"! I didn't think they had lasers in 1974? OK the laser only works on pre 1982 copper cents. They buy clean ones to make the set..
