My haul from the Virginia Numismatic Association show yesterday included a coin I have been wanting for some time. These are not rare but nice ones bring hefty prices; this one is far from the worst I've seen but it was in no danger of starting a fight at a big auction. It fits my low end collection. The seller said he considered the Trajan Decius double sestertius the only one of the denomination since he was less than certain of the denominations as used by Postumus. I accept Postumus but it i good to note there is the conservative opinion. At 32.5g mine is neither lightest or heaviest. Of the three reverses used, the Victory seems to be the second most common. This is just an average coin of no particular merit unless you consider that is a double sestertius --- and that is the whole point of why I wanted it. In truth it is about the same size as a single sestertius of the first century (they just don't make them like they used to....). For those who like high grade coins: http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1103137 Feel free to post your double sestertius of Herennia Etrucilla. I would love to have one: http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2176888 Remember to allow for buyer's premiums. My other Decius AE denominations: Sestertii Dupondius Semis (last of its kind) I do not have an as. Does anyone?
Nice addition, Doug. And a great set of other denominations. Some I didnt know existed for him like the Semis.
Wow, those babies are heavy!! (I love your new score and I really love that cool and "heavy" Herennia Etrucilla example that you posted!!) ... ummm, I don't have any cool AE examples, but I do have a fairly hefty silver example (I love this coin) Trajan Decius AR Tetradrachm 249-251 AD Antioch, Syria, Seleucis ad Pieria, Struck 250-251 AD Diameter: 28 mm Weight: 14.55 grams Obverse: AΥT K Γ ME KΥ ΔEKIOC TΡAIANOC CEB, Radiate Crown, draped bust right, Z below bust Reverse: ΔHMAΡX EΞOΥCIAC, eagle standing left on palm, head right, wings spread, wreath in beak, S C in ex
