I just happened to notice the west side of the bust and the east as well. What's the verdict? I m posting one pic of the error plus another oic of the normal die. It's a 1973' Comparing the two of them I notice the coat is closer to the Y in liberty than the normal one which leads me to believe the coat has doubling.
The top coin has the doubling of the coat on the West side' The bottom one is normal. I put it up for comparison. Can you see the line where there is extra material on the west of the coat? I can see that the coat in the upper pic is closer to the Y in liberty than the bottom pic. To me that says doubling since material is added.
I didn't see it at first either. I was looking at the date and MM but luckily (I think) saw this the second time I looked at it. The coat is wider than a normal coin, and although it is lower in depth it is not shelf like. I doubt it's a doubled die but I am curious.
Die deterioration of the edge of the coat would widen the struck image at the level of the field, and reduce the field between the 'apparent' edge of the coat and the 'y' in liberty.
