Not a problem or a care for me. Bills for general circulation, I know what to look for and I've caught a few at my bank over the years. For coins, I buy certified for any coin that is likely to be counterfeited. I feel that makes it safe to purchase.
There are counterfeit modern bullion coins (silver gold and platinum), counterfeit (laughably) Statue Of Liberty commemorative dollars, some fake Washington quarters (clad type) that were made for circulation, and some 2004 Keelboat nickels. But except for the bullion coins fake moderns are not much of a problem.
Most of the counterfeiting of contemporary coinage is going on in Colombia, where they are making Sackie Bucks that circulate in Ecuador.
"Most of the counterfeiting of contemporary coinage is going on in Colombia" I though China had a lock on that.
They make the fake Sackies for the Ecuador market, they are dollarised there. Then they make fake $100s for the rest of the world.
I have seen many counterfeit coins since I collect Trade Dollars, which have the best counterfeits of any coin. It's part of the excitement.
They have made fakes of these for so long, there are some really good ones out there. The last modern fake that was any good was a Jefferson nickel.
Thanks for the feedback. I more concerned about Gold American Eagles, platinum eagles and commemorative coins types.
