Do people in other parts collect USA coins?

A lot of collectors in the USA collect coins from other parts of the world. I wonder if we're the only ones that do it like that, and everyone else just collects from their own nationals.

I just remembers, a lot of countries use our money for saving and spending. I am only talking about people in countries with their own stable currency, and if they do like to collect USA coins for collection purposes. Like, do you pay more than the face value for a coin from the USA, just to add it to your collection.

Yes, I do collect US coins but not really "in depth". What I have is mostly circulation pieces, as well as a few halfs and dollars. Also, I do not collect foreign coins by year or mint mark.

As for what I pay ... well, I like those State Quarters (not every design but the concept), so I try to get every type at face value. Since I am in the US "only" once or twice a year, I sometimes buy SQs, and commemorative halfs, from dealers around here. I've already paid € 3.00 for one $ 0.25 piece ;-) but as one of several items and with free shipping, that is OK.

Well I'll tell ya what Sophia. I have so many State Quarters around here I was about to cash them all in. They are all circulated coins - but some of them are very nice and may even qualify as MS.

So if you'll tell me which ones you want perhaps we can make a deal. Send me a P/M or an email.

Nope....you're far from being the only ones who collect `foreign' coins. I got bored with collecting `Brit' coins a few years ago.

Now I only collect `foreign' coins (from circa 750 BC to present time).

As for the US, these days my purchase of US coins is more or less limited to the 20th century $1/2 commemoratives (my favourite being The Oregon Trail). I have a few 1820 -1836 bust half dollars, a good few Morgans by date and mm, all of the peace dollars by date and mm...and a thousand or so different (date and mm that is) other US coins from half cents to proof sets and bullion coins.

I like buffalo nick's, and standing liberty quarters in particular although the latter aren't half as neat as the UK's standing Britannia florins of 1902 -1910 during the reign of Edward VII. The walking liberty 1/2's are also pretty neat, but I prefer the French design by Oscar Roty (La Semeuse) on the french silver 1/2, 1, and 2 francs of the late 19th - early 20th century.

My current interest in `foreign' coins is French coinage from 1540's - 1870's and also silver jetons from the same period. These days i'm more interested in collecting the silver jetons than I am the coins......for me, it's a fascinating subject area.

Yes - Sophia got just about all of the SQ's from both mints. I was missing a few of the P mint coins but not many.

However - apparently the young lady did something to upset her parents soon afterwards and had her computer privileges restricted. She did say she would be back though.

I got most of the coins I was wanting. I got a coin for each state available from the D mint apart from one state but I got a coin from the
P mint. Got some coins twice ( one from each mint). I am wanting all of them but I'm gonna wait until every coin is available before I complete my collection.
Thanks for your offer. I'll remember you if I ever need someone to swap with.

    It's nice to be back.
The computer ban lasted about one night. I was let off and are still shopping for coins. www.heritagelegends.com is good for reproductions of old British coins like Celtic, Tudor and stuff. www.coincraft.com is fantastic for most coins you might need. Had a friend of the family return last night from a holiday in South Carolina. He had a nice coin/token with him. I don't know what it is. Can anyone help? This coin thing is silver, circular and very big for a coin. On one side it features an outline of South Carolina and the words "The Palmetto State" and "South Carolina". On the other side it had many pictures. It is a beautiful coin/token. Different from any English coin I've seen before.

What you are describing sounds more like a silver round than a coin. They are manufactured by various companies in a great many designs. You can find them with designs for almost anything you can imagine. Some of them are quite beautiful and many collect them.

Well, Christian there is something called swapping. I could get you lots of state quarters and halves if you happen to be in France and could get me the 1965 or 1967 10 franc coins, because I think they are very beautiful. As far as the quarters, I have only bought some of the silver ones that comes with the sets. I am more into silver coinage in general with some exceptions.

These look quite classical indeed (also the later 50F pieces in the same style), and I have one of them in my collection. But just that one piece, sorry ... Thank you for the nice offer; I don't really swap, though, with very few exceptions. Have had some bad luck lately. Also, I am not in France, see Location: NW is the state of North Rhine Westphalia, DE is for the Federal Republic of Germany, and EU is European Union, but I did not want to write a novel in that field ;-)

There is a French coin forum http://membres.lycos.fr/numisseuro/ which has an "Anciennes Pièces" section. Maybe somebody over there can help out ...

Christian, I did not notice the DE part. I have now two pieces of the 10 Franc silver coins and may purchase a third. I may try to complete that collection because I think they are very beautiful coins.
I do not collect much French coins, in general. I have not collected much German. Of the European countries I have focused on, it has been on Italy, Spain, England, Russia, and to a smaller extent Greece.
I like the Italian 100 Lira coins, English Shillings and Crowns, Russian Soviet pieces, and the designs on Greek coins. The Spanish for sentimental reasons, because I have visited a few times. Thanks for your help.
