The 17 would have graded Good but it has been cleaned.

no one else said it so I will:

    A 1922 Wheatie!

That was the one to grab.

    unless it was a 1922 D.

Even the 1922-D in MS60 would be nearly $100 - unless it were counterfeit.

If the 22 (I assume D) is in the same condition as the 17 I'd pass.

$17 for a 1922 is fair enough in grades F+. By the way, I like your ancient philosophical saying, it perfectly applies to me! Ha, ha!

    By all means.

    Buy them.

Coins will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through the times of no coins.

Most people wouldn't have bought the 1917, as it is a cleaned, low-grade coin worth maybe 10c. If you thought this coin was much more than that when you bought it, I'd advise against buying the 1922 (or 22-D) cent. My Spidey Sense tells me you'll be out $17 and holding a real dud.

There's an adage that says, "buy the best coin you can afford," to which I'd add, "and understand." Taking that advice, the response to a "should I buy this coin" question is usually "no," since if you have to ask, you probably don't understand it.

Does the 1922 have a mintmark?
