I can see that you are hoping that somehow the mint decided to repeat in 2004, the testing done in 1999 before the production of the dollar in 2000. Heritage mentioned there are a few small number of those experimental planchets struck with quarter dies are known. There would be no reason to experiment a second time in 2003/4 before the normal striking as the design change of the Sac wasn't until 2008/9 and did not to my knowledge involve any composition change. So I see the chance that your coin being the Sac composition as being very unlikely. None of us could tell by looking at a photo as to whether it was plated or not. Effectively, I suspect it would have to be submitted to the metallurgy testing by the mint or by a company associated with PCGS to become verifiable. Sometime the clad layer gives the appearance of there not being a core, when it really is. Best of luck, but the odds are very low. Welcome to the forum

Thanks, desertgem what you've said makes so much sense. You're right your input has cover all bases considering what you've said Im satisfy and ready to accept that this is one of those "error" that i will have to confirm on my own against the odds. Now thatt been said i am happy to conclude this topic and would like to thank all Who've assisted in this "error" of mines. Thank you.

here is a well circulated gold plated. do you see how the high points have worn down to the nickel layer? does your coin exhibit any "gray" areas? I still say phankins is the winner of the chicken dinner. the edge looks like a gold colored. obviously no ones fingers would get in there to wear it down. as for being an expert...I openly admit not even close. think of this site as a school room. I have been in class all year and these people are the teachers and I the teachers pet.. while I have had time to learn from them gives me a tiny step up. you are the student that came in the middle of the school year. I take what I have learned and try to help others as the teacher(s) have done for me and pass it on like a hot potato. because it is worn down I jumped the gun and thought it was toned, but they (phankins) in this case is far more knowledgeable than I. thanks for the confidence boost though lol :)

I would like to demonstrate using the OP's original pics....I suspect this will make no difference. Once someone thinks they have struck it rich with a coin worth thousands its hard to hear someone tell them it isn't But for the sake of your question bryantallard i did this...

I thought I was seeing that but every image had a glare or a weird angle. I was the same in the beginning too, but they seem more open minded than that other yahoo that posts all those ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS things. I have high hopes for this one. :) at least they are not claiming to have found a batman logo on an IKE.

Agreed, please understand its not that Im ignorant... UnderstAnd that all of the thoughts and points everyone has shared are considered greatly not wasted correct me if Im wrong as "Optimist's" shouldn't we not be covinced so easily? If that was the case then i would be justified in saying that 1943 Lincoln copper's are pretty much all founded for denounce it because the odds are 80% against you having a genuine oh, and by the dont even HOPE to find the 1958 DDO according to records only three are accounted for so you can forget about that one too... Seriously? I apologize i offended anyone but im a believer in possobilities especially in coin collecting until all possobilities has been relinquesh... I remain optimistic. For what its worth I'd appreciated you guys dont mind taking a look at the link

http://www.dc-coin.com/alternatestatequarters.aspx I thought it was interesting worth taking look at.

Does anyone else think this is teachmind's doppelganger, or that we're being messed with agian? The messed up garbled run on sentences...

I always remain optimistic, but when the proof is placed before me have to accept it as fact.

The pics I uploaded this morning (your original pics with my editing) clearly show evidence that your quarter is plated and there are two colors showing on the coin, gold which is from the plating and dull gray, which is the clad coin showing through the plating because circulation has worn that very thin plated metal off of the coin.

So regarding not being easily convinced...I'm sorry, if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, and the Ornithologist has told me that its a duck, then its not a fish no matter how much I want it to be.

I'm not sure what the Daniel Carr link has to do with this. He mints\over strikes a 1965-D Silver Peace dollar, but that doesn't mean its real or an error...its called a fantasy piece, as are all of his creations.

Look, I mean no disrespect to you, and by all means I'm not trying to intimidate, scare or run you off. Lord knows this hobby needs more passionate people. But a lot of the forum members have been through quite the ordeal here recently...it's not really even over that I know of.... with people trying to claim that what is being shared with them is just pessimistic know it all mentality trying to shoot them down.

It's quite the opposite, there are *very* experienced folks here offering their knowledge and experience for free to answer questions, and all to often its questions by people who have no interest in learning about numismatics, but making it rich quick off a coin they found in their change. That's not what this hobby is about.

Okay, I see your decision is strongly based on gold plating, correct? I should of read more carefully 2 points why I strongly dsagree with that being the case and is the least of my concerns .. Posting #1 please evaluate carefully i would like to remind you all three coins are in about the exact same grade.. I will hold on 2nd point for now..

I know right... If just going off pictures alone it can be a pain to differentiate Gold Plated from Copper Brass but it can be done thing is you'll need a Gold Plated coin and a Sacagaewea dollar for comparison like the Dime I have posted next to my Quarter and Sacagaewea.. The difference is huge hard to deny lol I would advise all do not post if you think you have Copper Brass Quarter on "Experimental" Sacagaewea planchet unless you have the 2 parts side by side ready for comparison! Other wise you will never succed against the odds....
