Looks nice, 63 or 64? I would leave her as is too.

I would slab it just to protect it and make sure it is real, etc. Nice coin

I agree...I think at some point guaranteed authenticity will be more important than grade for marketability...and that includes circ gold pieces..appreciate the feedback from everyone...

I would be in the 64 camp as well. I would have it slabbed for ease of sale by the heirs.

The fields look pretty clean and teh luster is strong. The mark on the chin and in front of her face make me want to say 63+, but if the coin is strong in hand, I wouldn't be surprised by a 64.

Before I can decide if this should be slabbed, I need to know how you prefer your collection. For example, the way I display my coins, a slab would look unattractive, because my collection is customized in attractive, self made plastic. However, if you just want individual coins to look at, or put your coins in a safe, then a slab would be nice. I grade your coin a 64.

I think old gold coins should always be slabbed - for a no of reasons :
    1) to guarantee authenticity 2) to confirm they grade properly (not cleaned or damaged) and 3) to determine if they're AU or UNC (what may be obvious with above coin).

My guess would be 63+ or so. Have a dealer run it through NGC on their gold rush @$20.

thanks, I am in the process of signing up with one or both of the grading services to get direct submission...you usually get enough "free grades" to pay for the membership..

I would rather submit through an area dealer as those collector club deals are more expensive in the long run and if you buy one for $150 with four coins included for certification you have to and from shipping, insurance and possible no grades resulting. If you find an area trusted dealer you may just have to pay the net cost plus have some expert eyes check out coins for no grade results, rim issues, cleaning and other problems.

I'd slab it. If it could grade 63 or higher (looks like it could), you're talking a pretty big jump in value from 62 that would easily offset the cost of certification. If you go to sell it raw, it will be difficult to get more than MS61 money for it, and some potential buyers would try to pay below melt, making up some BS story about it.

Is it a repunched date (bottom of 7) or am I just seeing things?

    63. I would slab it if I could find an reasonably economical way to do so.

Thanks, everyone...got notice the coin shipped so I hope to have it by the week-end. Will decided at that time but if it is as pictured I will slab it.

I am also in the process of direct submission...I have all the expenses shipped from the dealer's location as well, and something for his time, and the cost and time of travel to/from.

I will post the pictures when the coin returns.
