Found this amazing site about a week ago as a follow suggestion on Twitter. Very impressed with the courtesy, knowledge and sharing in this group. Thoughts on this coin? Trying to decide how vigorously to pursue price wise. Thanks, John
Welcome to the forum John....central Florida.....Polk County? Can't really tell much from the photo. Next time hit 'full image' instead of 'thumbnail'.
Thank you...Polk County it is...And you? When I click on the thumbnail, it opens up nicely on my screen. A lesson here? I am really looking to learn from this membership and, of course, contribute my meager knowledge to the group. JC
Welcome to the neighborhood, John. I'm from Lee County in Southwest Florida. We only allow Ken @green18 down here once a year for the FUN Show. Chris
LOL....and I most appreciate the Floridians for putting up with this 'Northern guy' when he's in town......
thanks...anyone have an opinion on the grade? It has that milky look so common on Canadian PL dollars. I like the coin...trying to decide how far to chase it an auction which expires later today. Appreciate any comments. John
With those pictures I would not hazard a guess - it could be really baggy, but the angle of the picture might not show it. It could be nice or it could be cleaner - you would not know it until you got it in hand. Sometimes not so good pictures do not show the cleaning, but in hand under 5x you see it. Some people take chances on ebay - I say small pictures or bad pictures means no bid for me. I don't want the hassle of returning a coin.
Thanks, Mark and all commentaries: I took my bid as far as I was comfortable...the bidding extended to 64 territory.. and while the coin might be there, and might even be semiPl, there was enough doubt in mind to set a limit. I have learned over the years, there is always another coin that will show up to buy. Appreciate this group very much.
welcome! As to the coin, that gray patch in front of the eyes looks odd, could be cleaned, the mottled look to the surface could mean all sorts of things. I think you were smart to exit the bidding when you did.
Could be MS64, could be AU58. Can't tell from pictures. 78-S is not a rare coin, so if you want one in 64, there are plenty available from which to choose a nice one.
Looks like the obverse has some PL as well. Can't really grade from the pictures provided. From what I can see, it looks nice. AU58 or MS63/64.
Not proof like--the reverse kills that. Obverse is very reflective. Looks like a 63 Morgan to me. Nice coin.
Agree with you about it not getting the PL designation. I was just commenting about the obverse having some PL.
Agreed. The obverse is highly reflective, and may well be PL. Can't really tell, due to the angle of the photograph, but sure looks so. The toning, which isn't that attractive does detract. Reverse is weakly struck though. Too bad, as it is a nice coin.
I'd really like to see the coin in hand. So hard to judge it from the pictures. I initially wrote AU58/63/64 because it's just to hard to see the fine detail from the pics.
