Cruising an auction site and found a 2010 $50 gold bullion that is currently 1/2 of spot. Auction pics and a 400 mile drive to hold/view. 54224818.jpg 54224819.jpg 54224820.jpg

Half of spot price? Whoa. I don't think anyone could make profits that low if this stuff was real.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

I'm guessing the auction hasn't closed yet.

True! Two days to go. I'm watching till it gets within the last 1/2 hour. Same auction has "Fine .999 German Silver 1oz" pieces that are at $30+. Don't think they know that German silver is 60%copper, 20%nickel & 20% zinc... no silver.....

Here is one major difference; it it's a year-to-year die variety, then we're OK. I checked this detail by viewing several PCGS-graded eagles.

On the OP's obverse, the 4th "ray" from the left edge does not touch the Capitol dome; on the PCGS coins, and the Redbook coin, it does.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The fake bullion that I have seen has been very convincing. I can't tell if yours is fake or not.

No comment on the 4th ray?

I'm not familiar enough with them to comment. One is business strike, one is proof. One is a stock photo, one is an actual photo. One is one year, the other is another. Any of these differences could be enough to cause an apparent different between the two.

400 miles to hold and view? You'll get hit over the head and they'll steal your money, and quite possibly, your life.

I'll look for a 2010 BU business strike.

Another difference - on the OP's coin, the torch appears to touch both adjacent stars. On the image above, there's a gap between the torch and the star to its right. And another, on the coin above, the end of the top of the 2 in the date falls directly in the center of a ray; on the OP's coin, it falls below.

I have reported to eBay time after time about Chinese sellers offering 2000 and 2013 American silver eagles BU counterfeits .. I even called them to report these sellers , their response .. we will look in to it .. I even called the US Secret Service to report these counterfeiters ,, they said , they are only interested in currency , not hobby collectors

Save your time, money, and gas. This is not a rare coin, it won't sell for under spot at auction (if real), and that's before the buyer's fee. An 800 mile (13 hour) round trip to see it is pretty expensive compared to what the coin is worth. Buy these from reputable sellers with a few mouse clicks in seconds.
