I already had a Vitellius I was happy with but this one surfaced as a one time deal so I parted with my other and put it toward this one which cost a bit more but worth it. I liked the portrait filling up the flan more then my old & it's a better reverse type. Vitellius (69 A.D.) AR Denarius O: Laureate head right. R: S P Q R / OB / C S in three lines within wreath. Rome Mint, 69 A.D. 3g 18.5mm RIC I 83; RSC 86. Updated Tray:
Nice addition Mat. I think I might have all but Otho for a 12 Caesar set. But of course they are scattered all around hell who knows where.
WOW Mat. That certainly is a fantastic portrait. I would part with my Vitellius for this one. Excellent!!!
Atta boy, Mat => yah, I really like your new addition (good move) ... sadly, I don't have an example of big-V (*sigh*) ... I still have a snotty-nosed "9" Caesar collection (no JC, Otho, or Vitellius)
Love that portrait and reverse Mat!! I already posted my sole denairius of Vitellius with a Concordia reverse---but I have a Galba with that terrific OBCS and wreath , of course, I much prefer that type rather than the endless 'someone standing there ' types (to para-phrase a sentiment of Doug's I agree with). Congrats Mat---and that's a great looking 'tray' !!!
