Green IH penny

    image.jpg I came across this green IH penny, it's in great shape, just green. This isn't normal toning is it? Maybe wrong planchet or a type of PMD? What do you think image.jpg

    1. Can you take a picture against a neutral (gray, black, or white) background? The hot pink makes it hard to tell what color the coin really is.

    2. Verdigris, a type of corrosion affecting copper, is green. If you find a green cent, that's almost certainly what it is.

    IMO it's oxidation/corrosion.

    Might be a metal detected coin, the IH cents I found look like that.

    Looks like just about every copper roof in the country.

    Which goes under the general term "verdigris".
    A quick check indicates that it is most often copper carbonate, copper chloride or copper acetate depending on the chemical environment it was found in.
