Found this guy today, what is going on with a doubling of just the outline above the head, and below the body? Also why is the '9' looking like its doubled? KIMG0184.JPG QQ1.png qqq1.png qqqq1.png KIMG0184-1.jpg KIMG0184-2.jpg KIMG0184-3.jpg

I think this is another example for the 'Struck Through Die Fill: Grease Mold Doubling' but was the same technique applied to those dies? From what i read, they started in 95-99. Could this have been a trial run?

Even though I don't agree with the definition of this form of doubling, I believe that the definition stated that it only affected the last numeral of the date.

This is not grease-mold doubling. The extra hairline above Lincoln's head is an example of split plating doubling. The doubling of the 9 and below the bust may represent plating disturbance doubling, where the plating lifts up after it's subjected to the tensile stresses of the strike. It's the numismatic equivalent of an Indian burn bad enough to create a blister.
