Ok.Great. I have finally found a few coins that are worth sending in to be graded! To me this is a bigandexciting deal, since its my first time and all. But what company should i go through?!? Im not trying to spend a fortune trying to do this. I thought I had seen $30 per coin. I thought that was crazy! Or isnt it? Please give me your opinion as to which company I should go through. Web links would be appreciated. Especially if it's a link to info and a printable submission form. Any bad experiences? Any crazy stories? All thoughts and opinions are appreciated! Thanks! -Tessa *GO BLUE *
I'd go with one of the top 2, PCGS or NGC. You'll pay more, but in the long run, they are worth the higher cost due to their reputation and accuracy. The lesser TPGs are much less accurate with their grading and tend to overgrade. If you have a variety or error that they do not attribute, go with ANACS.
I think ANACS would be a good company to get your feet wet with........they're reasonably priced and fairly accurate with their grading. Of course, if it's something of extreme high value, go with the top two (NGC, PCGS).
The 3 best are PCGS, NGC, then ANACS. The first two will cost more to grade each coin but if the coin is a good one, it'll be worth the price. ANACS is less expensive. Can you post or at least tell us what it is you want graded?
I would try to find a dealer who will submit them for you on the economy tier at PCGS or NGC at around $16 a coin; also have him screen them for any issues, in which case do not submit because NGC purple holders and PCGS genuine holders offer little if any value with a few exceptions. And I find ICG to be extremely user friendly, no hassle $12 a coin submissions. ANACS I don't have much use for from what I have seen.
This question gets asked about once a week, it seems. Search the forums and you'll find plenty of answers. The choice of TPG is up to you, but I would recommend different ones for different things. What are you submitting? If resale is your goal, I would also strongly urge not to send to ANACS (or ICG, or any other company you may be considering) - coins in their slabs sell for much, much less than the other 2.
It all depends on the coin, the four majors are close on some coins and grades. The original purpose of certification was authentication to screen out fakes; next grade levels came in as vital to quality and value, then more and more $$ grading kicked in. It all depends on your objective. PCGS has the highest tech holder IMO. I refuse to do multiple submissions for the same coin to the same grading service if they screw me first time around. At least in the holder it is protected.
