Today is Antonius Pius' birthday. Born September 19, 86 AD at Lanuvium, Italy and rule Rome from 138 to 161 AD. He was one of the Five Good Emperors in the Nerva–Antonine dynasty and the Aurelii. He acquired the name Pius after his accession to the throne, either because he compelled the Senate to deify his adoptive father Hadrian, or because he had saved senators sentenced to death by Hadrian in his later years. Today is also my birthday. I did buy a coin for this day; however it wasn't an AP coin. This is the second coin I bought while in Poland, and, once again, because of the exchange rate, I was able to buy it at a good price (I think). So, in honor of AP and me I thought I should start a thread by posting my new coin. If you feel like joining in on the celebration, post any coin(s) you feel appropriate. Happy Birthday Bing! I can't think of a nicer emperor to share it with. P.S. Great new coin too! I love these Cappadocian issues.
Happy birthday, Bing! Now it's one of my primary collecting areas. year 13 drachm, Nilus reclining on a crocodile, although the croc looks more like a pygmy hippo. Emmett 1621, a very common type. year 17 drachm, eagle standing facing. Emmett 1496 (unless there isn't a wreath in the beak, in which case it would be an R4 Emmett 1497... so it's probably 1496). Peridot from outer space!
Happy Birthday Bing! And a great coin to boot. Thanks for the short story. Enjoy today because you'll have to wait another 365 days to do it again.
How correct you are! Some days I say, "I'm surrounded but I'm holding them off." That's still a good day.
Not true. If Doug was 20 when you were born, he's 20 times older than you. In 5 years you'll be 5 and he'll be 25. Now he's 5 times older than you. In another 5 years you'll be 10 and he's 30, just 3 times older than you. At that rate you'll pass him sooner rather than later.
Two points: 1. One of our number is a professor of Mathematics. 2. You ain't him! (BTW, I am not a professor of English.)
Happy Birthday, Bing and Antoninus Pius! I like the Cappadocian drachm. To celebrate, here's a new A-Pi, bought yesterday, seller's pic...
