If your budget was 3K for a gold coin, or an assortment of other gold and silver coins thereof, which would you choose? What are your top coins for this price range? I've thought of 10.00 gold eagles, or a nice MS Barber Half, or an older key date coin. Your input would help me decide what to get, as big purchases are a rarity for me. I have a month or two to decide. Plenty of time and a lot of coins to look at!

If I'm going to acquire a single gold piece, it will bear either the C or D mint marks.

buy 2-3 gold coins that have been on your want list forever. buy what you like. pass on modern bullion :muted: unless that's all you want.

Keep saving and when you get about $5000.00 buy a 1911-D, strong D $2.50 Indian. It's a beautiful coin!

Different POV, something with character: 1600s or 1700s Hungary, Bohemia, Austria, etc., common gold, VF is adequate, a coin my ancestors might have bought a farm with, or a king's tip to his favorite mistress. Or an Atocha treasure coin.

$3000 for gold? I would probably pick up five or six Byzantine gold coins of one gold stater of Alexander III, Babylon mint preferably.

I've been picking up MS61/MS62 pre-33 gold coins the last few months. Half and Double eagles have been plentiful and affordable.

The best St. Gauden's Double Eagle I could get for it. I wouldn't get bullion coins, I don't like messing with spot prices unless I get them in change.

Probably a Dahlonega piece. I have good memories of visiting the north Georgia mountains, so it would have some personal connection. For that kind of money I'd want some character, not just bullion.

I've got awhile to decide. I know it will probably be THE coin of my whole collection. Whatever it turns out to be.
