Odd 1943-S Cent?

    Does this coin seem odd to anyone?

    There is zinc over the steel.

    As Idhar and Patty said, it's a steel penny plated with zinc. That's why it looks odd.

    And the zinc is breaking down.
    Zinc is quite sensitive to the environment and moisture really affects it.
    And "moisture" includes humidity.

    US 1943 cents need to be stored in something like an Airtite.
