wow, that is cool!! i read up on the new feedback system when Ebay sent around emails about it. But i dont ever remember it being untrackable by the seller like that ... if its like you said, that is a deffinate step inthe right direction for ebay. On the down side.. its still an Average! the old feedback score is just an average as well... a power seller who sells 3000 items a day and screws 100 of them is alot... but the feedback would still show high marks in the long run .... while this is a step in the right direction, its not enough. I really think this is a passive attempt on Ebays part to pacify some complainers, while not hurting their money makers = the Power Sellers!
As far as feedback goes, the seller has more at stake. For one, the buyer doesn't really need feedback to buy things. Two, the buyer's really only responsibility is to pay within a reasonable time (something not everyone does), and to give an accurate address and have patience during the shipping period. The seller, on the other hand, has to provide an accurate description (and or pictures), and send the item within a reasonable amount of time, and hope it arrives (and that it arrives intact). Much more can go wrong on this end. As with most things, I presume there will be problems. That's a given. It's how the seller handles those problems and resolves the issue which separates the good from the bad. Sometimes you have to take the negative feedback left by other buyers as, "You can't always please everyone." Sometimes it's a sign of some deep issues with that seller.
I thought that I was going to like the new system, but I can only find out if it works. Can anyone else see any of the new feedback system? Everything I see is the old system. Maybe too many of the power sellers objected to what they saw .....
no, i bought 30+ items on Ebay this past week .. feedbacks are going out as i start to get the items in ... yesterday i left a few and they were on the new system.. but as was pointed out - users need at least 10 before you will start to see the scores ...
I mean is ia all displayed as the old styly. Nothing about it "will appear when..." Nothing shows from the new system. Even the ones I found yesterday with all the stars - the stars are gone!
I like the new system...more info you can break down about a seller or buyer...what they have sold in the past, more exact info in the rating...etc... I do not understand why one would want to hide what they buy...I often look at what other people buy and who they buy it from who are bidding against me to try and determine if its a shill...when I am looking through a sellers list I want to see what he has sold before, if he has bad makes...what was it for...etc... I think that this is an improvement. they have to go further though. They just sent me a feedback for support and I have them an extremely poor rating and always will until they start responding and acting on reports of coin fraud....now that they have eliminated the ability to contact other members to warn them away...if they are removing members ability to help each other, they need to get tough on fakes.
look at my last post on the first page. i included a screenshot of the feedback form. the bold part reads: "Rate the seller on the details of the transaction. Sellers will not see your detailed ratings below."
I started out leaving possitive right after payment, Until some joker left a neg for me after an item was damaged in shipping. He didn't let me know, give me a chance to work it out or anything. He just gave me a neg as soon as he opened the package. Now I wait to make sure the Item arrives safe. I also had a buyer try and tell me they never got thier package even though the item was confirmed delivered. I,m sure they would have negged me if I had already left feedback. I am much more cautius now. For a small seller, 1 or 2 bad feedbacks kill your rating.
Mine just went back to the old style as well. Maybe that was just a test or something. They'll probably get it changed to the new one again soon.
i left more feedback just a bit ago, and its all the new system.. im not sure what you guys are seeing as the old ...
In terms of showing what is sold... yes, I know that in the old system, one could click on the items and read up, but that takes an effort, versus open display on screen. Imagine you're at a coin show, and have made some purchases that cost a non-trivial amount of money. Now imagine that anyone who wants to can stop you and make you tell them exactly what you bought. You can't leave for 90 days until you disclose this. If this were a live show, how many of you would tell a total stranger, "It's really none of your business what I bought or how much I paid for it?" Sure, some of us might be more friendly than that, but at our discretion. The new feedback system takes that choice away; it's in black and white (or in this case, gray) what I bought, when and with a click, how much I paid for it. Sure, my eBay contact data is less available than it used to be, but given the lack of computer security it would not be a big deal for someone to cherry pick a couple of big ticket buyers and target them in some way. Oh, but eBay is just a venue, like classified ads, so they are completely without liability. Well, my local paper doesn't publish information on who bought the stuff in the ads. I can appreciate those who want to get a sense of who's shill bidding, but what happened to that algorithm that eBay claimed it had to reduce that tactic? Besides, shill bidding works when the shill does not win and so that wouldn't ever show up in a list of items purchased anyway. I know that I'm probably being paranoid about this. I've already given up selling on that Internet Auction Community given the fun and games with Paypal; now I may give up buying as well, and I'm not a high roller by any stretch of the imagination.
I strongly disagree with your opinion. When a seller leaves feedback prior to the completeion of the transaction (the satifactory delivery of the sold item to the buyer) he is asking for trouble, and only a seller who wants to deal with unnecessary problems and feedback extortion would choose to leave feedback as soon as payment is recieved. As a seller, I am never satisfied with a transaction simply because I was paid, there is much more too it than that and to leave premature feedback only serves to allow a buyer to make a non-positive transaction take place without my ability to warn other sellers about their shenanigans. I agree that the new system is still seriously flawed, but reqiring immediate feedback is akin to trying to kill a virus by shooting the patient. I would support a "feedback escrow" system that would allow each party to leave feedback that is held "in waiting" until the other party to the transaction has left feedback, at which point both parties' feedback would post. If one party chooses to not leave feedback then the feedback would post as soon as they can no longer leave a response. This would eliminate retaliatory feedback altogether. A great thing in my book.
i'm disgusted... I AM AN AMERICAN!!! I WANT THE SYSTEM TO BE SHORT AND SIMPLE... i'm too lazy to do otherwise...
Here here!!!:thumb: Although my reasons are more petty. I'm still mad they nixed my dollar auction. But I am considering not using Ebay at all any longer. Who's with me?! We can start a revolution! Michael
