yeah I was kinda bummed. ended up getting a 1928 $1 graded PMG 64 CU and a 1935H $1 graded 67 superb gem unc. I figured I would maybe start with something a little more affordable. I figured 63 or better would be a good investment for the easier obtained bills. when I get the easy ones out of the way I will start saving for the pricier things but not as good as a grade as those. ungraded but still very nice like that eagle was. I now know I need $300 for a bill like that. so it was a learning experience as well.
I'll share some sage advice from a dear departed friend: "buy the KEYs in the best condition you can afford even if you have to wait a while"; the common ones will always be available and probably at not too high a premium. The KEY notes keep rising in cost, exponentially at time, while common not so much. Congratulations on your latest coups. Please do post pictures for us.
Learning how to search ebay's completed listings will also help you see the typical price range of notes you are interested in. For instance, here are all the recent sold listings for Black Eagle notes, between $150 and $200. That should give you a pretty good idea what you can get within your designated price range. You can also see how many are out there -- and as others have said, have patience and wait for the right moment to buy.
unfortunately I cannot afford those key notes at this current time as I am only able to deliver papers a couple hours a day while I take care of my grandmother. (appts, appts, appts) so it might be a while before I can even consider those in a reasonable grade. I am taking the advice of others to avoid "problem notes" and at a later time I will invest in those I drool over. as soon as they both come in you can be sure I will be listing them
Here's one to "think" about and Don Kelly is a very respected dealer: http://www.donckelly.com/lg_type/f230_9841.html
thank you for the link but that eagle seems over priced compared the sold ones on ebay that gsalexan was nice enough to link. xf-au is selling $163-$178.
I apologize for the apparent misunderstanding; I posted the Don Kelly link as an example for your review and to acquaint you of what's around and the pricing from dealer to dealer. I should have been more specific. Sorry.
sorry I obviously misunderstood. I tried getting to the home page but was unable to. I just see the eagle. could you please link the home page?
