Think of your cars engine. If you use Valvoline you will not have this problem to the extent if you don't use Valvoline. All other oil in you engine contains Paraffin. Paraffin is a wax. Yes, it makes the parts in your engine slide with less wear but it also builds up that black stuff we call sledge or gunk. Eventually over time, that gunk builds up. It can get to the point that your engine will stop running. It's the same thing with a coin press. The grease builds up slowly, over time. The longer it builds the less impression you will see on the coin. You can't strike metal and get a clear sharp image when striking through grease, oil, water, etc. The grease build s up and then you end up with a coin like you posted. It's that simple.

so this black stuff that is sledge or gunk is made from grease and warn off metal? that goes into the lower parts of the die and packs it self with gunk until they see it dose not show a clear strike? then what they clean the die clearing out the gunk or change the die? if they do change it is it the one side only?
did you know if the grease or gunk packs in to the did it could cause it to break.(even with oil, water and ect.)

could it be in those years that we see the grease on( mostly on reverse side? ) that it could be cheap parts, defected parts(as in the process of that part being made) or its an old part of being used and needs to be replaced?

The US Mint uses high speed processing machines. For a 1987-D, the coin you posted, just under 5 billion pennies were minted. If the Mint had 10 penny coin presses running at the same time, each press would mint 500 million pennies. Do the math. That's a lot of cents. The dies are cleaned from time to time. Sometimes, they need to be replaced.

Have you ever pulled up the Mint's web page? www.usmint.gov Try it. Clink on the tab that says LEARN. You can take a virtual tour of the mint. It explains the minting process. It even shows how a die is made and what it looks like.

It means that it's so simple that everyone else but you understands that grease fills the dies so the coin is not fully struck. There is a conclusion but you don't bother to learn from what is posted.

It also means that you can not ask a question that folks understand. You speak perfect English but act stupid.

The real truth is that you are a troll just here to mess with folks and don't deserve any answers. Stop the act. Everyone is sick of it.
