What do you think of this one. The reverse is flawless, but the front barely has an outline of Lincoln. It is not pmd, no scratches gouges or tool marks what so ever, rim is completely intact
Super greaser?! WELCOME to CT, Kevin! Your coin looks like it was struck by a grease filled die. I've never seen one to that extreme, though. It might garner some amount of premium.
Yes I agree - Struck Through Grease - http://www.error-ref.com/struck-through-smooth-viscous-material-grease-oil/ Yours looks better than mine does!
Interesting. Wonder if those vertical lines are a fingerprint, or evidence of being struck through some non-liquid material? Either way this is a pretty fun one.
I'm thinking struck through die cap. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/Errors/Struck_Through_Die_Cap.html http://www.error-ref.com/struck_through_a_late_stage_die_cap/
Definitely in the differential. To me, the (few) features which remain sharp (ear, eye, lips and neck) are too sharp to be a die cap strikethrough. No room for closed-mindedness in numismatics, though.
You might be on to something with the struck through die cap. I'm going to research it more, I see lots of similarities. Thanks everyone
