NTCcoin.com wow what a deal on there old slab conversion. if you have any of there old coin slabbed its 2$ + return shipping... is that worth it??? http://www.ntccoin.com/index.php/older-ntc-coins well in my opinion if you have some coins in there slabb that are not premium numismatic items i think its kinda worth it just to slabb the majority of your average low end collection
I don't see the value added. Paying to ship already slabbed older NTC coins plus the $2 each coin makes for an expensive holder.
For the older NTC slabs, the general consensus was that they were over-graded and/or problem coins. Now, the same company wants you to trust them? Give me a break! Chris
Who knows? One day the old holder may command a small premium. Is that worth the changing the holder and paying to do so? Not in my book.
The way I see it, this is money I could use to buy more coins with. I also do not value their opinion of my coin.
God help us if old numistrust holders ever carry a generally accepted premium. I cannot speak of the validity of this new ownership claim, but if true it's going to be one hell of an uphill battle imo to take the name into the realm of respectability. In my eyes, free shipping and reholdering would still be too much, but to each his own.
As a coin collector, I fail to appreciate premiums associated with slab types. Everyone ought to collect what they like, it just doesn't do anything for me.
I'll tell you what, if somebody with honorable intent has taken this bunch over and is hoping to build a legitimate rep, that person has more stones than I've ever been able to claim. And a big hill to climb. On the other hand, they appear to be attending the local regular show, which puts faces out in public with their product. I'm not really sure what to think here.
He sets up 'round these parts.......saw him (yesterday) at the Melville (NY) show. He has a table by the water cooler. Hear tell that his current grading is pretty accurate.
The new owner is trying to do the right thing. He can only try, that is below his cost (I believe) to re-slab those older pieces.
If true, that's great, but with anything worthwhile he's going to run into the problem of people (buyers) wanting the coin in the "right" holder, meaning many better coins he may slab will quickly be removed from his holder. We can all say buy the coin and not the holder all we wish, but the unfortunate reality is that anything beyond widgets in his slabs is leaving money and liquidity on the table. With that said, if a straight shooter, I certainly wish him the best of luck though.
Ain't no way they make money on reslabbing at $2. Wish I knew the personalities involved; this is a pretty poor way to start a scam so you have to give a fair look.
That show serves a pretty serious collector demographic; Long Island is home to some Old and Large Money. Likely the highest slab:human ratio in the country excepting maybe LA. For them to be present at every show, talking to old hands at the TPG game, says all that needs to be said. I'd almost wonder if some of that old money is behind them, making them rather well-capitalized. That would be vital to a serious TPG startup, because the business would build slowly. And the more I think about it, the more I see the subtle genius in buying that much existing name recognition. Brilliant.
They bought damaged goods (a garbage grading company) and NOW they want to clean the mess in hopes of salvaging it. It won't work... they won't get more than a tiny fraction of the inventory & and nobody with a brain is going to throw good $ after bad. No matter what they do, it doesn't become a market acceptable slab. They would have done far better to us a new name...
