Have found an error coin from South africa 1961 ...could be rare ?

South African 50 cents 1961 there is a letter "C" instead of letter "O" in word SOUTH Africa , and the orintation is wrong, it should be a Medal allignment but its a Coin .

From the abrupt termination, I suspect you're looking at a chipped working hub. This rare hub defect, in combination with a 180 degree rotated die error, should lend the coin respectable value.

 

In addition to Mike's excellent explanation, you can see that the "C" in AFRICA is totally different.

Does your coin have the initials CLS under near the Springbok? Maybe fake? Compare to these pictures.

 

I don't even see the mountain range in the background on the OP coin

 

I can see some of it ...could be a lighting issue.

 

Even the denticles look smaller.

 

Strange .. What is the point then , to make a silver fake one.

 

There are fakes of all kinds of coins, whether it seems like there is any sense to fake them or not. Your coin is 100% counterfeit.
