Today I went to a local art show and saw something I think a lot of people on this board would like. This guy does art based on coins and medals. I've never seen anything like it. You can see some of his art here: http://fred-larucci.artistwebsites.com/index.html?tab=images&page=1
Dude! I was at that show (Palatine, IL) at around 12:00 today! I talked to him about his Peace dollar, which he did from a coin he had. I broke the good news/bad news to him that while the big, vertical lump in the middle of the obverse was due to a gaping hole in the die and not part of the design, the good news was that the coin he drew from is worth about $100 instead of $20. (It's a VAM 2A "Earring" variety, but I didn't get into those specifics). His drawings are all pencil. He had prints, framed prints, and acrylic panels for sale. Same stuff you could order from his website.
I think it was pencil sketches. He said it takes hundreds of hours to finish one. I'm not a big art buff so I didn't pay a lot of attention to the details.
That's cool. I was there about 11:30 so we almost ran into each other. Normally we go to the art shows in the area and see the same stuff over and over but I'd never seen this before. It certainly caught my attention. My wife is thinking of getting me one for Christmas.
