Is this an error?

    Hi!

I'm pretty new to coin collecting, I was recently going through some pocket change and found this quarter with a ring on the front. Is this an error? I checked other 2011 Vicksburg quarters and didn't see any with this type of mark. Is it something worth hanging on to? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Yes, I believe that is an error.

Nope, not an error. That ring was made by an automatic coin rolling machine.

I'm just curious to know why you think it is an error?

I just didn't know what else it could be. I thought maybe the ring came from a die die error.

I'm not big into errors so I am probably wrong.

Well, I'm going to ask you to put on your thinking cap and tell us what die error you think could have caused this.

Keep it as a reference piece of what this type of damage looks like.

If the ring is incuse and affects both the field and design, it's a scratch from a crimper on a coin-wrapping machine.
