my father in law is a bit of a coin collector - he sold the majority of his coins to fund his daughter's college tuitions. being the nice son in law, for his birthday he's receiving a 5 piece set from the year he was born. he loves Mercury dimes, so i made sure this set was all BU and featured a high quality Mercury. i think he will be very surprised by this gift and look forward to the smile on his face.

All nice coins, but what is with that Jefferson? It dosen't seem to be the same quality as the others.

When I turn 63 I am sure I will be toned a little too.

Nice gift - very thoughtful - I'm sure that will bring a smile to his face. You should score some serious points with that. :thumb:

Nice... I did the same thing for my grandfather one Christmas, though have all BU 1924 coins was more than I could afford, lol, so they were circulated a tad. I also did that for my father (1951).

For my 3 brothers (born in 1981, 1983, and 1986) I got them proof sets from those years.

    Very nice Steve,

You can take the coins away from the person but you can never take the collector out of the person. I'm sure it'll have sentimental value for him in years to come. Good Job dude :)

    Regards,
    Ken

i paid $28.00 for the 5 coins and the holder. the dealer even put the coins into the holder for me. i think i did good on the deal - the 4 silver pieces are very nice for the price i paid.

complete set? i walked into the local coin shop and told the guy behind the counter what i was looking to do - 10 minutes later he came from the back with all 5 coins, placed them on the counter, i looked them over, he produced a holder and began making the set. i was going to reject that nickel until i had a good look at it. that is an interesting coin.
