That's the way I do it but I use 8 inch cutters.

I just put the slab on concrete and tap the edge near the corners a couple times with the peen of a ball-peen hammer. Newer PCGS and ANACS open right up cleanly after a couple hits. NGC and older PCGS can take a bit more work.

Here's what the coin looks like, if someone wants to see it: 1843 Silver Dollar TS Obv.JPG 1843 Silver Dollar TS Rev.JPG

Nice dollar! I'll trade ya three shiny quarters for it.

(Note to moderators: this isn't a serious offer to purchase the coin)

Thanks. I would be happy to trade for three shiny, lightly worn quarters from the 1790's.

Ooh, that would be a good trade! Maybe the Pogue specimen could be one of them?

Yes, that would do quite nicely. What other two do you have in mind?

Hmm... how about the MS65 and MS67 plate coins in the PCGS Photograde App? I believe the Pogue quarter is the MS66 coin.

That is very kind of you. I am sure these three coins would be adequate compensation for my 1843 F-15 dollar. Still, would it be possible to throw in a couple 1804 (plain 4) proof restrike 1804 gold eagles instead? (I'm looking for a little variety.) There are at least four of them out there.

It seems to be getting very deep in here ;)........ Deep enough to bring out my hip boots.

You're right. Do you have a couple of 1804 (plain 4) proof restrike 1804 gold eagles? If so, I might be willing to make a trade.

Only if you add an 1804 Dollar

I suppose you want that in something better than Poor-1 condition.
