Your silver bullet will come in handy next time you meet up with Dracula. Wise purchase! Ha, ha! Aside from that, those things/coins from Japan look really interesting. I never saw one in a slab before.
Thanks guys, yea those silver bars from Japan are very neat artifacts. I bought the raw one 1st then went back the next day and bought the slabbed example...It was a 3 day show and I went all 3 days! I was definitely focused and in my element this weekend.... Sad to see it over with and I will definitely be looking forward to next years show! The coin club here in Columbus is a great group of guys and gals and they put alot of hard work in to make this such a cool event. Free raffles every hour and a treasure box for the kids along with a scavenger hunt.... Now I get to watch the Buckeyes kick the crap out of Virginia Tech tonight.... A nice cherry on top!!
I went Friday with my wife and then went back on Saturday to make some deals. I met with Lucas at Frisco Mint, who I've dealt with online and on the phone before. It was great to meet him face to face and I was able to put together a deal on a Club Rays Fugio that I could fall asleep at night after (my wife walked away in a huff when the negotiations started on Friday so I figured it better to go back... she thinks the $400 Fugio is the most expensive one... ) I also had the great opportunity to meet and speak with Col. Steven Ellsworth. I had him look at some of my coins I had thought of moving on - he talked me into keeping one of them, which I will send in the next group to PCGS. A great show, but a bit light on Fugios... the one I ended up buying wasn't even at the show, but I had seen it on their website and had my eye on it. Great selection of federal coinage though. I had a ball!
Nice show and for entertainment we had the police arrest two coin thieves and march them out in handcuffs on Friday. Unfortunately another scammer passed a $29,000 bad check to a dealer on Saturday.
Oh yea i heard about the thieves, that is funny and sad at the same time. This is the 1st ive heard of the bad check ouch!!! Is it common practice for a dealer to accept a check?? Especially one for that much scratch????? Ive accepted a check once that i recall and i had dealt with the individual numerous times before.....I wish i would of known you were in attendance conder, i will try and remember that next year. Would love to chat w a fellow CTer!!!
Yes it is common for dealers to accept checks, I know I have rarely had any been reluctant to accept one of mine. (Only time I have I offer references from other dealers at the show or to add extra for postage so they can ship it after the check clears. That typically calms any concerns.) The guy passing the check represented himself as a dealer with a shop in IL and gave a tax number to avoid taxes on the purchase. He's currently wanted in seven counties for bad checks. Story and pictures of the guy can be seen here http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=238170 I do usually make the Dublin show each year. There Friday go home Saturday but I don't always stop back by the show on Sat. Didn't this year.
Thanks for the link and info, I hope they catch this guy ! Im not good at remembering names but I rarely forget what someones mug looks like....Reminds me of the Michael Jackson song: Smooth Criminal.
