Here are 3 of the 26 coins I got for 48 cents each. I soaked them in distilled, did some acetone, and I don't think I can get much more detail out of these 3. What do you think? Did I make my 48 cents back
Little did you know, the pictures weren't about the coins at all - I wanted to show off my dirty hands
Looking good. You've got better detail on those than you get out of most uncleaned ancients. Looks like you should be able to attribute them all.
Considering the treatment these coins have gotten over the years, you could try soaking them in a soap solution (I have seen Dawn recommended) and brush them with a toothbrush, or even better, a toothbrush you have cut the bristles to half-length. Fun stuff, still working on mine.
Good idea! It's good fun to see something recognizable emerge out of a nasty looking chunk of whatever. Even though most coins aren't worth much, I think the most valuable part is the experience
Forget polar solvents. Smear each coin heavily with ordinary vaseline, and set aside for a month. Wipe the coin gently, much of that green scale will depart the coin and arrive on your soft rag.
