I like coin jewelry, and have quite a few modern examples - for a budget collector it is a great way to get rare coins at a fraction of the cost. Here's a Constantine I stick pin I got last year - I like the fact that the coin appears undamaged in its mount: Here's an earlier thread with other examples: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/constantine-the-great-stick-pin-identification.378857/#post-7405087
Hi, I want to preface this by saying that I don’t want to use any of my valuable coins in good condition to do this, but I’d like an ancient coin pendant to wear for the emotional meaning to me. Does anyone know where I can find a reputable seller who sells ancient coin jewelry? Or is it better to buy a coin in not so good condition and purchase a bezel for it? And should I have a jeweler set it or is it something to attempt myself?
Because of the varying thicknesses and diameters of ancient coins it might be tough to find a ready-made bezel for one. Chances are you'll need to find a jeweler to fabricate a bezel for you.
Thank you for commenting- this was exactly why I was having a tough time finding a bezel. I decided to order one already made from Zak Mishriky. It was fairly inexpensive at $70 with the shipping. Another member said that he has had good interactions with him. I also see that you’re from Long Island- that’s where I’m from, as well! Born and raised I live in New England now, but I’d like to return to NYC.
Someone musta worn this Arcadius solidus as a necklace at some point. Still a very nice looking coin, and I got it for cheaper than it would have been without the hole. Honestly, I kinda like the hole. It's an interesting thing to explain to lay people, and it's also pretty cool to think about whose neck it could have adorned and within what time period that occurred!
Done in antiquity? Makes a coin cheaper without messing it up to where I care too too much. Making jewelry in modern time out of ancient coins? Not a fan.
