I never have been booted from a forum. But coin talk is the only forum that I have joined. My opinion is that Peter and the moderators do a fine job and the members are friendly and helpful. I think it's a loose to a forum when a member like Aidan is booted, he is very knowledgeable in his field of numismatics. But you have to follow the rules of the forum.

    Wow, just wow....

I'm somewhat of a forum junky as I belong to a ton of forums...

Some like this one I visit daily, some just every few months or when I need something new....

I belong to several in the following topics:

    Car Audio forums

    Coin Collecting and PM forums

    Gun/Firearm Forums

    Metal Detecting Forums

    Custom Mini-Truck Forums

    Model Rail Road Forums

    etc.. etc...

I've been doing this for years, way back since people used Acoustic coupler Phone Modems over a land line to dial into BBSes and I have never been kicked off a bored/Forum...

I can't say I've neever had a disagreement or a difference of Opinion with someone, but I've never got the boot...

I'm sure sonene that gets the boot from several places will not agree, but from the outside looking in....

After getting the boot from 2 or more places, you kinda need to look at what is in common at all these places...

Of course it was the evil admins, mods or Whoever.....

Whos driving at the keyboard of the account that got banned???

Maybe tone things down a bit...

hahaha, same here... I went through every fricken step of the way...

I even fell for the 19.2 (most people went from 14.4 to 28.8)...

I worked at a local computer store, so I either got modems for free or at cost.... Zoom, USR and 3com gave us everything free... Also Zoom gave good deals because I ran a 4 line BBS (WWIV software, then Galacticom Major BBS).... Then the Internet!!!

Obviously this is ridicious. Being booted from 6 DIFFERENT forums definately means something. Unless all the moderators happened to be the very same person, can there be any other explaination other than YOU who are the troublemaker? (a more ironic fact is that these are the very forums that supposely host his favorite "British Commonwealth" topics - a great expert that deserves to get booted. Right - there isn't any need for any racist who can't tell that the term British Commonwealth can indirectly mean "white racist rule" :thumb: )

Another obvious fact is that you don't go around in other people's forum and spam your whatever link UNLESS you have the full permission of the owners. How much more different is it than some porno links??? Not at all! Freedom of ideas? It's more like freedom of spamming. No thanks for more bulls. :eating:

And lastly you just don't go behind the back of other forums to diss other forum moderators - obviously it's too easy to get found out if it's on the net: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?p=218277 :loud:

I don't even know why this thread is still open for discussion if it's not numismatics.

Well, you see, there's another area where a forum admin can't win for losing. In the larger picture, Coin Talk gets a lot of criticism for being too stiff. While I don't want to make this spam-central, I do see the point and am trying to get it less-stiff and have more fun in here.

I did want the Coin Chat section to be an area where people can talk about subjects related to coin collecting. In a way, talking about the different forums is related. If nothing else, the links in Aidan's post will show people there are other resources, and the discussion will make people realize that every forum has its own character.

But, if I lock up the thread, I'm sure more people will be upset, and it's a real grey area where to draw the line sometimes.

coin talk is too stiff.. i NEVER would have thought of it that way. The rules that are in place help protect not only individual users but the community as a whole. What are the top rules (i really dont know) 1) be courteous 2) be friendly and respectfull 3) no spamming porn, drugs ect ....

im not sure of the others.. but anyone who complains about the rules, might just be the people who abuse them...

oh! i just thought of more... no posting sale ads with a post count of 10 or more... again, that helps protect the community we have here againts spammers who want to sell a coin that might just be fake or over priced anyway....

i am sure there are more rules i am unaware of, but i think Peter and the other mods do an excellent job keeping this forum a clean and friendly place to be.

Not to brown nose but I applaud the fact this thread was allowed, it does show a bit of loosening of what I thought was a bit of a ridged, bit heavy handed moderating. I also agree that links to other forums here and there isnt going to harm cointalk...I would say they should only be allowed if they are links to show something specific, not just a ball faced ad.

I think I whined once to a moderator about what I thought was a heavy handed locking of a thread...after that, I just assumed that is the way things are done here...I can live with it or leave..I am here so I guess I can live with it...I do like a forum that shows a bit of leniency and less heavy handed moderating....there is a very obvious difference between a porno ad and a guy linking to a thread in another forum...or say mentioning another forum in a post...it gets a little more grey when one is deciding when a thread has gotten off track enough to warrant intervention or locking....

Allowing Adian to post all those commonwealth threads showed that in some ways you are pretty lenient...what made me laugh was he posted 50 commonwealth threads that got like 1 or 2 responses if that much and then he posts a thread saying 'we need a commonwealth forum

anyway...like I said before...this is only one of 2 general coin forums I read (I also read an ancient coin forum) and I dont see that changing anytime soon...thanks for the forum...

Gxseries, that's a bit on the nose, isn't it? What is wrong with referring to the Commonwealth as the 'British Commonwealth',considering that a) 'Commonwealth of Nations' is NEVER used by numismatists & b) there are other organisations & entities that have the word 'Commonwealth' in their name.Accusing me of promoting racism through numismatics is just plain wrong, pure & simple,& you know that. The British Empire wasn't perfect, but there were some good things about the British Empire that is expressed through numismatics, such as the stamping out of the slave trade, which are commemorated on various English traders' currency tokens,& on a Sierra Leonean token.

I can guess that they didn't like the fact that I work in the numismatic trade & have gained a lot of knowledge & enjoyment out of it in the process.

Never been banned from a coin forum and rarely had to ban anyone when I owned a coin forum. I was a pretty lax admin in a lot of ways...personal attacks and scams were the only thing that really triggered me.

Peter is absolutely right in that most things are a no win situation when you have to decide on the rules and what crosses the lines. Often a thankless job in that respect.

Er? That's equally absurd as calling current Germany as Nazi Germany, Japan as Imperial Japan, Russia and other ex-Soviet countries as Soviet Union and so on. Look, I wouldn't have been this furious if you haven't the time frame completely wrong. If you refer to pre 1960s Commonwealth coins where it does explictly say British Commonwealth, that I wouldn't mind as it is in fact true. Obviously when one refer to 'Nazi Germany', it specifically only refer to the WWII era.

Let's see how ridicious this thread becomes:
