It looks to have been pretty harshly cleaned and I can't tell if that spot on the reverse is damage or a carbon spot, but nothing screams fake to me. It's ashame that it was cleaned like that, that would have been a pricey coin.

Yikes. It sure looks too good to be true! I wouldn't scream fake, but might whisper it.

I would keep looking. That coin has too many problems.

Pass! Wait for a better coin. Too many issues on this one.

At one time this was a nice coin until someone screwed it up. Even screwed up it still has value. The question is how much?

Not that I would necessarily recommend it, but I would put it in the 400-450 range.

That blemish on the reverse side of the $1872 is a dig. This should drop the value at least $200 from a typical BU grade, not to mention the cleaning as others said.

Now that I think of it, that coin should go for around $420. AU58 details cleaned, and reverse dig.

It looks like the cleaning went beyond to actual polishing. The reverse dig hurts as much. looks real to me though.

Looks pretty nice besides the scrubbing it got back when it was a normal practice to "shine 'em up" when they toned.Too bad about the ding on the reverse too. I wouldn't go more than 250usd myself and only cause I have her little sister an 1872 half dime.

I have already passed on this one. Because there is more negative than positive about it. Besides there is couple more that I am waffling on.
Thanks for all of your input.

Just think about how hard it would be to sell a coin like this. You would have to be honest about it's problems and that would drive buyers away. Even if you are honest, folks will worry about the other coins you are selling.

In agreement with the others, just find it easier viewing the coin in thread versus clicking links especially when on my phone, etc.

I agree. Just show the coin. Worst case the owner of the image will throw a fit and you will have to remove it.

@Blissskr thanks for posting that picture, because when I clicked on the photobucket link only an 1847-O and an 1859 were there and they looked pretty nice to be honest. I was wondering why everyone was getting so riled up about them until I realized I was looking at a different coin. :D

I'd probably do the same. The other two that are still there, though, are some nice looking coins. ;)
