Does anyone have both the Charlton & Krause prices for this interesting coin? I got it in yesterday's mail all the way from somewhere in Quebec. The guy I bought it off graded it VF & sold it to me for US$15,including postage.I thought that was a fair price to pay, considering that it is far harder to find than the 1d. (2 Sous) coin.

Yes,it is listed in Krause as a coin.

From what I can determine the 1852 1 SOU shows no mintage number but is worth $10 (American) in VF condition. Post a picture if you can, we'd like to see it.

I guess it's a fair price (almost full catalog price) if shipping is included and you wanted that for your collection.

Do you know which sub-type is it? There are 4 minor sub-types for this Habitant token.

I tried scanning some of these at 600dpi. Hopefully it will show enough details to identify the sub-types.

The obverse has same design for all sub-types.

I have both the Charlton and Brookstone catalogs but not a Krause and I can not find it in either one of my catalogs. I have to admit that I have not heard of these type of coins.

I did find it in my Brookstone catalog, but no values are given for any grade.

It isn't any of those subtypes. The 1852 is a separate type that says 'PROVINCE DU CANADA',& has a seated female figure that is facing right on the reverse.

Oops! I didn't realized that you are talking about 1852 half penny. The reverse of this token has arm of Quebec city.

It's pretty common token and Krause lists this type for $4 in VF and $10 in XF. So, I think you have paid too much for this token.

Ballabh,I think I paid a fair price for this coin,as I had to take the airmail postage into account, considering that it was coming all the way from Quebec.

Despite what the Krause prices say,I reckon that it is a far more difficult piece to find than the 1837 Bank issue Habitant pieces.Has anyone got the Charlton prices? The 1/2d. (1 Sou) is harder to find than the 1d. (2 Sous).I bought it off someone who got in contact with me through the forum at www.numicanada.com/forum/index.php .
