    Hey everyone!

So, I'm processing some items for my bosses auction, and I came across this pretty cool little item. It's Victorian-era coin dispenser, made of silver and brass, and holds coins the size of a sixpence (of COURSE I HAD to put some change in there to try it out!)

I just thought it was pretty cool, and thought I'd share the images with you guys :)

    Enjoy!

It's not silver but oxidised steel, often referred to as 'gunmetal', because of the 'blued' colour. It is meant not for small change but for half sovereigns in this case.

They are fairly common and better ones are made of sterling silver, sometimes as a double holder for full and half sovereigns, with the same general construction, and sometimes combined with a vesta case.Gold ones also exist, the only ones I have seen were 9 carat gold, but higher carat such as 18 ct. probably exist.

They were always carried on the end of a watch chain in the waistcoat pocket (vest pocket for Americans).

It would date from around 1900 and is properly referred to as a sovereign holder or case. They died out almost instantly in 1914.

For $400.00, I 'd sell it too. It's a great piece to have though.

Yes, I have one of the silver ones, holds coins and currency. I also like the coin dispensers banks used to give out (ones like bus drivers had). Nice post!
