Lea , I really don't think you could have done more . He had plenty time to ask you where you got your information if he really cared . It's my opinion he didn't care . Sure you could have gone further and told him where you got the information , but from the correspondence I doubt if he would have used it .

I thought everything you said was similar to what I would have said until you got to the end (quoted above). I personally wouldn't have told him what to do or how he should conduct his business. Don't get me wrong, a part of me is kinda glad you did tell him, just saying I wouldn't have done that. Especially when you are trying to get your money back. He could have taken it personal - telling him what he should and shouldn't do. He could have then made getting your money back more difficult by not cooperating with the return. If I were to make suggestions (which I wouldn't), I would have at least waited until I had my money back.

Also, telling them they should be able to sell it for "$100 perhaps more" would make me think you may be trying to scam me and get it for cheaper, if I were the seller. Of course he could reweigh it and see you are being truthful, but it still comes off as suspect when you suggest a price.

I would have just gotten my money back and moved on. Not saying my way is better. Just saying how I would have handled it. Thanks for bringing this seller to our attention.

Endeavor, thank you for your assessment. That could also be why he thought he could relist it. I am the first person who would say some things could have been done better. I was trying to help him out, when he probably knows EBays idiosyncrosies better than I do. This time he maneuvered around me.

Yea, from all the information and messages you provided I agree this guy is playing slick rick. Although he could have gotten it authenticated and didn't mention it in the relisting, I highly doubt that. For that reason I'm glad you reported him (whether to eBay or just on here, or both).

I'm glad you posted this as it helps put things in context; thank you.

After reading his response, to me at least, it reeked of the perfect opportunity to show, and not just tell, him why it's fake... to educate someone who just told you they're not knowledgeable in this area. Like on the forum; if someone posts, say, a coin that is counterfeit, some will simply say so, but being able to prove it certainly makes a better point, especially if the OP isn't familiar with the membership. It's clear your heart was and is in the right place, which is commendable, but let's just say I respectfully believe you had nothing to lose by proving it as best as was possible considering the situation. You (the buyer) never truly knows the whole story; when he said there have been no problems with the other medals, this couldve been because they've been no other complaints, or perhaps someone has or had his ear and this is the cause of his doubt. The point is that it's easy to assume on both sides of the table, and something good is more likely to come from discussion, at least when both parties are open and willing.

Also, may I ask if you located other examples, besides the one posted on page one, of this medal showing the corrosion? My reason for asking is sincere.

In my travels around the web, I found one medal that had the same sort of corrosion. Fretboard found the same one and it is on the first page of this thread. The dark spots on this medal are in the same spot as the one I had. Think I remember one more that had brighter green spots with the shape slightly different but at the same spot. Whether I saw one medal or three can not say. It could be one or two medals pictured more than once.

This shows the ANS image on the left which is sure to be genuine next to the one I had. Also another point that I have not said is that the surface of the medal had curve in it. It was not even or smooth. Because I knew the medal was cast, I thought that curve and uneveness was just from a bad casting.

It may not have been what you meant, but that is the way I read what you wrote. It was basically okay to ignore someone you don't know telling you it is a fake. Lea already tried to educate him, but he should follow up. Not just relist it. Some sellers just do not want to be educated. So basically Lea was right to warn us and she did what she could.

If I was selling it and got it back as a fake(especially a $700 dollar coin). I would go some where to confirm it is legit - even if it was a TPG. And while I trust several people on this forum and other forums - it would have to be an in person review by someone else. I also would ask more questions and get more information from the person saying fake. I would not just re-list it, which is what this seller did. And if you read the response the seller basically said I have not had other problems with the lot. Maybe that just means they did not realize it was fake, or maybe all of the others are legit - maybe just this one is a fake.

The PS was basically equating what this seller did to a crack out artist. Both are misleading and just looking for the right buyer who will not complain or who does not know what they are doing.
