1938 quarter missing designers initials (no jf)

    Has anyone ever heard of or seen a quarter missing the JF on the bust line before??? I am using a 16x loupe and see nothing CAM03243.jpg CAM03244.jpg CAM03228-1.jpg

    Ya know, i really have no clue, unless the initials were added later on....but i cant think of ANY 20th century coin where the designers initials weren't on it somewhere.

    I can BARELY make out the F. The J is polished away perhaps?
