Currently catless cat person here. I grew up with dogs and loved them as a kid, but really... if you're going to have a dog you might as well have a child. Both are far too dependent for me .
A dog person myself who married a cat person. No Helena coins, but do have a cat who also enjoys belly rubs...
I know the feeling, but the joy is worth it. On to the coin: boar being attacked by a WHAT? I'm not sure the engraver got the memo on what was supposed to be under that pig...
Dogs have owners. Cats have staff. A dog thinks: "They feed me, they shelter me, they take care of me... they must be gods." A cat thinks: "They feed me, they shelter me, they take care of me... I must be a god." I admire dogs. I appreciate dogs. I like dogs. But I love cats -- big cats, small cats, every size in between. The pain of losing any pet is almost overwhelming but we provide each other with a lifetime of joy. Capri and Diva trying to figure out how to get to that lizard outside...
Capri and Diva are two lovely torties. My cat is one as well, so I have a personal affection for them.
Wow chrsmat, great Helena addition ... sadly, I don't have an example of the crazy cat-lady (but now that I know her weird tale, I will definitely add her to my want-list!! ... thanks for the cool coin-story-info) I grew up with cats and dogs and I definitely love all types of animals, but during my adult-life I have definitely become a dog-guy ... cats are cool and amazingly fun to watch => house cats are so similar to their wild ancestors, but dogs seem so much more appreciative and good for the soul ...
Thanks for the write up. I didn't know anything about her. I just picked up a group of Roman coins and it contained a Helena in it so after a quick search I found your write up. No pictures to share right now but I will post some once I have a chance to photograph it.
chrsmat, it's been two years since you created this thread and I still don't have a Helena example to post!! ... man, I need more coins (I need to score myself a cat-lady example, eh?)

I have a dog, Lyoda, a cat - Lyosha who surely is a Labrador Retriever that somehow got crammed into a cat body, he loves water, comes when I call him by name and is ornery. His brother Tyeni is a more typical cat. And a month ago we adopted Luna, now Lunakhod - she is a 16 year old kitty whose previous servant passed away.
A lot of things have changed since that photo was posted. Robin died of cancer that fall, I changed the way I store my coins, and I adopted two other cats - Hershey and Snickers (it's easy to guess which is which!).
David ... so sorry to hear about your previous cat passing-away (that is the biggest down-side of pets => out-living your "kids") ... oh, but congrats on adopting your two new furry friends
Anyone who can heard 1000 cats is a saint in my book. Nice coins and cats everyone. We had a cat and two dogs. Now only one dog. We miss the others but enjoy spoiling the one we have.
It probably is her real skull. Her tomb is still around and survived in excellent shape. I could see medieval people opening it up to put her bones on display. I saw her tomb at the vatican museum. Really impressive.
