Just how do you know what year your penny is if it has no date? IMG_20230308_123226406~2.jpg IMG_20230308_123516546~3.jpg

The best I think you can do is narrow it down... The reverse tells you its a 1959 or later... The rim looks like theres zinc rotting so it would be 1982 or later. Beyond that I'm not sure. With alot of studying you might be able to find pick up points that will give you something more exact...

Well, you have to understand that these coins are made by machines.Nothing is perfect and things do go wrong eventually.Your coin appears to be a keeper otherwise since it's a strike though grease.once the date is gone it can't be recovered but still a keeper.Read up about this error at the website below and the thousands of others that exist!!good luck.https://www.error-ref.com/struck-through-smooth-viscous-material-grease-oil/

Sure looks like a zero as the last number.
    Clearer pics might help.

    Look's like a 0 in the date 1980 or 1990 ?

I still don't see any signs of a date but this is a old computer. To me as cwart stated it does appear to be a zinc cent.Has the right texture appearance so between 1982-2023 as a start at least.

So, if I don't know the exact date(I do agree it is a zinc coin) then how do I know it's value?

Common greasers like yours go for around a buck or two(research)use websites like eBay e.t.c and find a price estimate based on the specific terms.Errors can be tricky though, especially since people call damaged coins as if they hit the lottery.

Etsy is just about the worst I have seen. I can say it's worth $32000.00 on there and get by with it. So stupid.

This is so awesome thank you for that information. It can answer many of my unasked questions.

It’s definitely zinc as you can see white metal on the damaged rim in the 7 o’clock position. Looks like a 1990 to me but it is a heavy greaser in the date area.

    Vertigo Did someone say bust?

How do you know it's later than 59 from the reverse? Excuse my lack of knowledge as I'm no penny expert.

As a zinc memorial and the last number of the date being a zero, it can only be 1990 or 2000. Honestly, it has the look of a zinc ‘90…imo…Spark
