No lie, I walk out of grocery store and go to sit in my car and there on the seat I found this quarter. ..eagle side up! Now since it was eagle side up, and I saw the "hole" I instantly thought it was a spy quarter since I KNOW it was not there previously. Really. I shook it, looked at it, bit it, it looked like a real quarter, but hole was too perfect! So, is it a spy device, a usage scar, or a defect of production? 1982 D I believe. .. letter hard to see.
I think you are being a bit paranoid It's a counterstamp or countermark. Post Mint Damage.. don't put coins in your mouth unless sterilized..no lie
PMD. Looks like a metal dimple maker got punched on it. How would something like that denote a "spy device"?
Because it was staring at me on the seat of my car, and someone else had put it there, lol. I wasn't seriously thinking spy device, but it had occurred to me. So you are saying someone dimpled the eagle as a joke or protest and placed it in my car to be funny? That's fine, I just wanted to be sure it wasn't some sort of rare quarter someone put on my seat to be nice
From the looks of it, it does not seem to have been currently punched. It would have a sharper more ragged look to it. It seems worn as if it were punched sometime long ago. Maybe it just fell out of some persons pocket and landed on your car seat the way it did.
It's called Post Mint Damage. No bullet holes. No spy device, just done with something that makes no difference and by someone with a little too much free time. It's worth $.25 so spend it. Maybe a friend playing a joke on you. Maybe a passerby tossed it in your car.
Do you see that small bulge in the center of Washington's neck? You wouldn't find that on a Mint error. Chris
Was there anyone in your car who could have dropped it out of their pocket? Was your car locked? If you are the only one who is ever in your car and you are sure you didn't drop it yourself, I'd call the police just to let them know about it. Might be nothing, but these days there are a lot of crazy people out there and you never know what they will do.
I know it wasn't previously there, and the seats are tipped back so if it had fallen out ofmy purse getting out of the car I woyld have bumped it and it would have fallen back. Thus was sitting perfectly at eye level when I opened the car door which I did not lock. I live in a smaller town, so I'm sure my car would be recognized by someone. ..
