I have a couple of questions for all of you Canadian coin collectors out there:

    1. Which price catalog do you go by - Charlton or Brookstone? I've been going by the Charlton catalog for many years, but I recently purchased a Brookstone catalog for the first time and the prices are much different on some coins.

    2. What is the deal with the Chinese themed coins? What is the connection between Canada and China?

    Thanks,

Loonie2knee,I go by the Krause catalogues,as that is what my boss has.As to the Canadian Chinese-themed medal-coins,they are popular as Canada has a very vibrant ethnic Chinese community,of which a substantial number came from Hong Kong prior to 1997.

Canada's former Governor-General,Adrienne Clarkson is herself an immigrant from Hong Kong. Here's an article; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrienne_Clarkson .

Also I would like to add that Canada in particular BC has had many Chinese immigrants come here since the last century. Initially the railroad building projects led many of them to come here to take up jobs building the railroad. After the railroads were built, they stayed on.

By last century I should've said 19th century. :goofer:

What makes the Krause catalog better then Charlton or Brookstone catalogs?

I knew there were French Canadians and British Canadians, But I had no idea there were so many Chinese people in Canada. You can sure tell I'm a Yankee!

    Thanks everyone for your input.
