In almost 10 years (Oct 97) of trading on Eaby I've never once been asked to provide a phone number for tracking purposes, never asked for one either. Now this... /////////////////// Question from cashcdn cashcdn( 9248) Positive feedback: 99.4% Member since: Aug-20-98 Location: Manitoba, Canada Registered on: www.ebay.com Item: 2006 KETCH TALL SHIPS HOLOGRAM .9999 SILVER $20 COIN This message was sent after the listing closed. cashcdn is the seller. please supply your phone number for tracking purposes ?????????????? I asked if it was required. What are your thoughts?
i am not sure as to why its required, unless the shipper requires it. they might want it to contact you if they are unable to deliver the package..... i would wait to see what the seller says. on a side note.. them hologram coins are SPECTACULAR .. but the price has kept me from obtaining them...
It would not surprise me that the shipper requires your phone number. If you are that worried, call the seller. HIS number is listed in the auction
There is no reason to provide a phone number for shipping. I've been buying and selling on ebay for 8 years and have made hundreds of transactions without a phone number. I would not recommend giving it out. Not unlike your identity iformation your simple phone number can be used for nefarious purposes (those are the bad guys). There are sites where you can type in a persons phone number and get their address and all kinds of information. It's called reverse phone searching. If its required, give them the number to the local Papa Johns Pizza.
The only time I've had to provide a phone number for shipping (this was not through ebay) is when getting a FedEx overnight package.
Hmmm, starting to get a bad feeling about this. I used a 1-877 business number... ////////////////////////////////////////////// Response from cashcdn cashcdn( 9249) Positive feedback: 99.4% Member since: Aug-20-98 Location: Manitoba, Canada Registered on: www.ebay.com Item: 2006 KETCH TALL SHIPS HOLOGRAM .9999 SILVER $20 COIN This message was sent after the listing closed. cashcdn is the seller. yes it is your phone number ???????????????????????????????????? I noticed they've already posted Positive FB. Very odd, maybe got burned recently. Ben
I shipped a camera lense to Italy a while back and had to have a phone # on the packge. That was a USPS reqirement. I don't know if canada is the same.
I don't know in general about providing phone numbers for tracking purposes, but I have dealt with that seller more than a few times, everything has always gone smooth, but I know from talking to them that occasionally they do get burned, mostly just crooked UPS drivers pocketing small items that look appealling I guess. I think theyre just trying to cover their end just in case something happens in transit...
Unless I got a better explanation of the need than "for tracking purposes", I'd probably give them Pennsylvania 6-5000, and hope they didn't remember the Big Band era.
Bone, You are not required to give them your telephone number! eBay has your phone number on file, they know this and can request your contact information, if they really need it. It sounds like some kind of scam to accumulate telephone numbers to sell to telemarketing companies. Once you give it out, you are doomed to months and months of telemarketers calling you and since you gave it out, this is all that they need as their authorization to use it to call you. Frank
Ah, but did they ever hear it in a live Glen Miller performance? :thumb::thumb::thumb: Edited Oh well, enough OT - back to coin topics guys!
The seller already has your name and address, what's the big deal about giving your phone number? Worried he'll prank call you or something? Sell your number to telemarketers? Give it to the Freemasons and Illuminiati? Don't really get what the issue is. It's just your phone number, not something epseically private like your social security number or shoe size or anything. Why not just save yourself the trouble and give it rather than debate over whether or not you have to? No offense, but somehow I'm sensing the same kind of paranoia that some people have who think that being asked for ID is somehow a violation of their Constitutional rights. I just don't get what the big deal is here.
Arent we all a little bit paranoid. In my kitchen, I have a big yellow book full of people's names, addresses and phone numbers. If you have an unlisted phone and I have your name and address (as the seller has) , I could find your phone number on at least 100 websites.
