Thanks for all the comments, guys. I'll see if I can get pics of a few more before other new coins arrive and I'm sidetracked again.
I had some good daylight today and took the opportunity to work on pictures of a few more coins. I had been meaning to pick up a nice Victorinus, and for me this one fits the bill. VICTORINUS Gallic Empire AE Antoninianus 3.0g, 19.7mm Trier mint, early-mid AD 270 RIC V 118; AGK 14b; Cohen 79 O: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. R: PA-X A-VG, Pax standing left, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre; V to left, star to right. A coin of one of the tetrarchs from the London mint was also somewhere on the want list. GALERIUS Follis 9.60g, 28mm Londinium mint, AD 303 RIC VI 33 O: MAXIMIANVS NOBIL C, large laureate and cuirassed bust right. R: GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI, Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopiae. And for my collection's Aelius-shaped hole... AELIUS, as Caesar under Hadrian Denarius 3.34g, 17.6mm Rome mint, AD 136-138 RIC II Hadrian 435a O: L AELIVS CAESAR, bare head right. R: TR POT COS II, Spes advancing left, holding up flower in right hand and raising skirt with left.
Well, I've finally sent three coins from the lot off to Sear - the Diadumenian, the Balbinus, and a Maximian follis (not shown yet). Ultimately, I couldn't actually find more than those that I was actually uncertain enough about one way or the other (and that were also actually worth the expense of a Sear opinion). I'll post an update when I get them back.
Hello Zumbly, And the Marc Anthony? are you sure it is ok? great coin. I hope it will turn our fine at Sear, then I take my hat off for you !! and sell all my coins I quite )
Update: The three coins I sent off to David Sear have been returned, and all three have been given certificates of authenticity. The Balbinus and Diadumenian have been shown before: The third one was a Maximianus antoninianus, nowhere near as valuable as the other two, but ultimately I decided I wanted Sear's opinion on it anyway. I had been unsure about it for several reasons, and am happy it came back with the all-clear. MAXIMIANUS Billon Antoninianus 3.81g, 23.5mm Lugdunum mint, AD 287-289 RIC 458; Cohen 647; Bastien 218 O: IMP C MAXIMIANVS P AVG, helmeted and cuirassed bust right, wearing radiate crown. R: VIRTVTI AVGG, Hercules standing right, strangling Nemean Lion, his club on ground behind. I don't have any other coins from this group that I feel I need to send off to Sear. Six coins, fortunately none of significant value, I'm already either absolutely or reasonably sure are fakes. The other ninety or so I'm confident are authentic. A good lot, all in all . Thanks again, everyone, for your comments and input!
Thanks, many of the remaining coins are the more common types and I can't seem to muster the enthusiasm to photograph at the moment. Yeah, junky coins with holes in them make for more interesting subjects .
that's great news, my friend => plus, that sweet $50 certificate might be worth something someday? (maybe once ol' David Sear has passed away those babies will be collectors items themselves?) ... I have a dream that everything I own becomes valuable!!
I share your dream Steve...in fact, you wouldn't believe the gold mine I'm sitting on in Air Force base trade tokens! Goldmine I tell 'ya!
